Read an Excerpt from The South Winds (Turquoise Isle Book 1) by Allison Mullinax ~ Contemporary Romance ~ @allsnmllnx @FierySeasPub

The South Winds by Allison Mullinax

Series: Turquoise Isle, Book 1

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Publisher: Fiery Seas Everlasting

Publish Date: August 7, 2018

About the Book:

Cassie Ray, manager of her family’s successful oyster house, has never asked for much out of life. The sun, surf, and sand are her companions. The regulars and tourists that flock to The Slippery Oyster are her livelihood. But when the Atlantic kicks up a hurricane, sending waves of black water threatening the coast, Cassie quickly learns that the south winds have blown in a lot more than debris and saltwater.

Dean Alexander left Turquoise Isle eight years ago and never looked back. With his sister’s wedding approaching, and a hurricane churning in the Gulf, Dean returns home, where he’s welcomed with a rip tide of memories determined to pull him under.

Will Cassie and Dean make it through the crashing waves of the past? Will they get a second chance before it's too late or will the storm ahead be too much for them to handle?

Read Chapter 10 from The South Winds:

THE SOUTH WINDS by Allison Mullinax

CHAPTER TEN

“I’m not saying you have to marry the guy, Cassie, but why would you turn down abs like that?” Holly looks over her shoulder as she pushes through the doors of the Slippery Oyster. “And those dimples.” She shakes her head, as if that would help it all make sense to her. She can’t see past the charming personality and the looks that could kill, into the train wreck that was our relationship.

“I don’t even know him anymore.” I walk past the hostess area toward my office, Holly hot on my heels. In truth, the years I’d spent with Dean had been mostly filled with a love like I’ve never known. But the last few months—it had been like an atomic bomb had gone off, obliterating everything in the drop zone, my entire world lying in the center of it.

“Well, it seems to me like he sure wants to get reacquainted.” She giggles, readjusting the gym bag slung over her shoulder.

“He’s here for Julia’s wedding. Once he’s walked her down the aisle, he will climb back into his expensive car and drive straight toward to his new life up north. And he won’t look back. He belongs up there now.” Dropping into the leather chair behind my desk, I fire up my computer, seeing who is expected to come in today. I scan the list of employees until I find his name: Tony Balentine. Good. At least I won’t have to call him in to fire him.

“He could have said no to coffee. He wanted to see you. I’ve never seen you with a guy for longer than a couple of weeks. Four years is a long time.” Holly stands in front of the mirror, patting her face with a makeup sponge, looking briefly at me through her reflection. She dips her hands into her makeup bag, pulling out a mascara wand.

“We were just kids,” I say defensively, refusing to make eye contact. I tuck a loose strand of hair behind my ear and click the mouse in various places along the screen. But my mind is elsewhere.

Despite myself, an image of me and Dean standing calf-deep in the ocean flashes to my mind. Along the beach, our friends are laughing around a campfire built from leftover pallet wood found behind my parents’ restaurant. Our fingertips are entwined as we stand side by side, looking out at the moon melting into the horizon. My head rests against his shoulder as his thumb traces circles along the top of my hand. His voice is soft, and deep.

“You and me? Always?” he asks. And in reply my pinky hooks onto his. “I love you, Cass. It’s going to be okay, I promise.”

And in that moment, I had believed every word.

We had spent the entire day on the beach with our friends, the majority of us graduating from the junior college earlier that weekend. Everyone had big plans to get out of our town, attend out-of-state colleges, or internships anywhere but here. But Dean and I, we were the ones staying behind. I had my associates in business management, all I would need to help my parents run the restaurant I had grown to love. Dean had pursued a degree in computer science, and on the outside, he’d seemed so happy. We’d been unstoppable, and I’d never seen it coming.

Our friends had shouted at us from the beach, always teasing us, never really understanding how two people could love each other the way Dean and I do. Had. The way we had.

I remember Dean lifting me up out the water, his strong hands under my arms. He pulled me to his lips, kissing me in front of everyone, not caring about the way the guys always called him whipped. He threw me over his shoulder, slapped my backside, and waded through the water back to our friends.

THE JINX by Ernest Lancaster
EXCERPT: Chapter Twelve

Catfish opened his door, climbed out of the van, and hurried over to Munro’s car. He leaned in the window. “I’ve been wanting to talk.”
Munro backed off a bit. “About what?”
“Buzz Kill. I think he’s crazy.”
Munro’s new badge weighed on him like a lode of fool’s gold. Of course Kozart was crazy. But had he crossed a line?
Munro had just overseen the chief’s son’s foolishness, which had led to his indictment. He couldn’t fish for much more trouble before he gained a hated reputation as one looking to send officers to prison.
“If being a little odd violated regulations,” he said, “we wouldn’t have anybody to man our cars.”
“I’m not kidding,” Catfish insisted. “He told me he likes to hunt humans. It’s his religion. The silver religion.”
“Who does he think he is?” Munro murmured, “Harry Bosch?”
“Harry who?”
“He’s a fictional detective who brings his creed to the job. This is America. Leave religion out of it. Serve and protect; enforce the law.” He leaned his forehead into a cupped hand. “And obey it.”
Catfish didn’t try to hide his disappointment that Munro wouldn’t champion his cause. “Well, I don’t like it. Hunting people has to be the Devil’s religion. Every time a hot call goes out, he hears divine messengers calling because he believes he might get to shoot someone. He believes he’s an avenging angel.”
Munro took a breath. “Buzz Kill has killed three people. That’s three more than most cops. But they were savage thugs about to murder innocents.”
“No telling how many he killed in Iraq.”
“That was war.”
Catfish thinned his lips. “Just the same, he’s tasted blood. I’m afraid he likes it.”
Multi-colored fluorescents at the rear of the Zebra Lounge caught Munro’s gaze. “We can’t judge cops by what’s in their hearts. Someone bigger than you and me will take care of that. We can only judge their actions. If Buzz Kill follows the law, and policy and procedures, then there’s nothing to be done. If he doesn’t, he’ll be held accountable. Have you talked to Benedict about this?”
“No. They think too much alike.”
“That’s wild, Catfish. He’s just yanking your chain. But if you swear by it, you need to report it to Lieutenant Benedict.”
Munro didn’t know how much of what he’d said he really believed. Cops walked a fine line between neutralizing deadly threats and murder.

Ernest Lancaster retired from the Memphis Police Department as a captain after serving as a cop for thirty-three years.

In the early seventies Lancaster spent two years walking a night beat in downtown Memphis, when The Peabody and Beale Street lay boarded up and crumbling and the center city became a dystopian ghost town after dark. He patrolled in ward cars, trooped for three days through a sea of pilgrims to Elvis’s funeral, edited the Memphis Police Association’s newspaper and acted as the association’s vice-president. For twenty-six years he held positions on the TACT Squad.

Lancaster now resides with his wife and Yorkie in the Smoky Mountains, where they love to hike and camp.

About the Book:

Dr. Lexie Draden didn’t want to leave her successful career as a surgeon in Chicago, but she didn’t have a choice. Her family needed to heal, and as long as she was around, it wasn’t going to happen. While adapting to her new community, she meets ZakTifour, a man as intriguing as he is handsome.

Most of the small-town residents view Zak as a man who likes his privacy, but to a select few, something doesn’t seem right. Long-time resident Cicily McQuay believes she has the key to the man’s odd behavior – a link to terrorism. After all, he just isn’t the type of man who belongs in her community. But to belong, you need to be welcomed; something Cicily has never extended to Zak.

Zak knows plenty of terrorists and has even lived amongst them, but not like Cicily suspects. Escaping from a lifetime of bloodshed and regrets, he attempts to distance himself from the quirky townsfolk; people unable to comprehend boundaries. It appears to be working until he encounters the town’s new attractive doctor. Even though his secrets run deep, she ends up trusting him with her heart. But trust is fragile, and when Zak gets drawn back to his old life, Lexie must decide whether he’s a dangerous man or a broken hero.

BEYOND CIRCUMSTANCES by Gloria Joynt-Lang

Excerpt from Chapter Nine

The beauty of this particular opera had always touched him, but unbeknownst to his date, it was much more than that. It didn’t surprise him when the underlying violence and the scene of torture struck too close for his comfort. He knew this when he purchased the tickets, but he also knew the beauty of the story and wanted to share it with Lexie.

He was relieved that she didn’t notice him cringing during some of the scenes. Turandot had been performed so splendidly that her focus was on the stage until the very end. When the curtain closed and the clapping faded, she leaned toward his face and kissed him on the cheek.

“Thank you, Zak, for taking me to this. It was breathtakingly beautiful.”

Those words could be used to describe her. But it wasn’t enough. Her beauty was more than breathtaking, it reached into the depths of her. Places where a stranger couldn’t see, and where he had thus far only been able to sample a taste. He was conversant with many languages and there were many ways to describe beauty, yet, when he looked at her, she transcended the words of the languages he knew. He’d have to study prose and poetry of an ancient civilization to do her beauty justice.

He needed the trip to New York to be over with. He craved spending more time with this remarkable woman. Although he could never relax, she made it easier for him to open up. It was probably never going to be easy for him to talk about his past, and he probably wouldn’t tell her all the things he had gone through but sharing his parents’ death with her eased the burden that had settled so deep within him.

It was time to get her back to Baxley. He promised himself he would not take advantage of her. He’d known her vulnerabilities before tonight, and when she talked of her niece Hailie, he could sense how deep the hurt went. He just prayed he wouldn’t end up hurting her more. She was good for him in so many ways, but he questioned if he could ever be the type of man who could give her what she deserved.

As they walked into the night, the snow continued to lightly fall. The visibility on the highways would still be good. He helped her to the passenger side of his truck since the shoes she was wearing, although extremely sexy, were useless for moving about. When he was a kid, he’d often wondered why women wore such ridiculous and useless footwear. However, when he got older and saw how they made a woman’s leg look, he felt indebted to those shoe designers. They were geniuses.

After settling her into the passenger side, he opened the driver’s side and started up the truck. The vehicle was lightly covered with snow, so he stepped out, brushing the fluffy white layer off. When he got back in, he noticed she was shivering. Leaning over, he gave her a big hug. It wasn’t just some chivalrous gesture; it was also self-serving as he craved the intimacy with her. He didn’t want to move away, but he had to get her home. Slowly releasing her from the embrace, he sat up and put the truck into gear.

Author: Donna Migliaccio

Release Date: February 20, 2018

Genre: Fantasy

Publisher: Fiery Seas Publishing, LLC

They call him StoneKing: the lord of four countries, the vanquisher of the Wichelord Daazna, the man who will restore his people to prosperity and peace.

But there is no peace for Kristan Gemeta. Already weighed down by the cares of his new realm, Kristan carries a secret burden – the knowledge that Daazna is not dead. He isolates himself in his ruined castle in Fandrall, where he struggles to control the destructive Tabi’a power that may be his only hope of defeating the Wichelord once and for all.

And there’s trouble elsewhere in his realm. His Reaches are squabbling in Dyer, Melissa and Nigel are experiencing heartache in Norwinn, and Heather’s command in Hogia is in jeopardy. Unaware of this turmoil, Kristan receives an unexpected gift – one that forces him, his knights, an inexperienced squire and a crafty young shape-shifter into a hazardous winter journey.

Read an Excerpt from StoneKing:

He did not realize he had fallen asleep until some small sound woke him. The room was nearly dark, the fire almost out, and his fingers around the scrying ball were stiff with cold.

“You should be in bed, StoneKing.”

He jerked upright. Sitting across the table was the old Wiche woman, wrapped in her blankets and smiling. “All the castle slumbers but you and me,” she went on. “Even your two faithful knights on watch outside this room are sleeping… now.”

“Did you spell them?”

“They were nodding off anyway. I just gave them a little nudge so I could slip past.”

“You take great liberties in my house, madam.”

She grinned at his curt tone. “If you’re going to be all lordly, boy, that puts an end to any comfortable chat. And you’re longing for a comfortable chat, aren’t you?”

He opened his mouth to retort, then shut it. She was right. He could not remember the last time he had spoken to anyone except as lord and ruler.

She nodded at the ball. “Do you See?”

“See?” It took a moment before Kristan realized what she meant. “Oh. No. I never could.

Can you?”

He rolled the ball across the table. She caught it in her tattooed old hand, lifted it to the light and turned it this way and that. “It’s a pretty thing, but the Sight has never been one of my skills.

How did you come to have a scrying ball, Gemeta?”

“It was given to me when I was a child. I never understood what it really was. Never knew its true purpose until someone told me last summer. I don’t know why it was given to me. I have no
Wiche skills – no magic.”

She chuckled. “Every child has a little magic, if only because it doesn’t know any better. Every child is full of yes, until elders and experience fill it with no. Whoever gave you this ball must have seen a great deal of yes in you.” She rolled the ball back, squinting at him. “Now, of course, you’re full of no. All grown people are, but you – you’re brimful, poor boy. No wonder you spent half the morning all aswoon on the floor.”

Kristan’s skin prickled. “How do you know that?”

Read an Excerpt from New Release Break the Line by Allison Mullinax ~ Contemporary Romance @allsnmllnx @FierySeasPub

Break the Line
Allison Mullinax

Contemporary Romance

Fiery Seas Everlasting

February 13, 2018

About Break the Link:

As a pro-fisherman, Benson Howell’s days are spent on murky lake water, reeling in largemouth bass and winning first place trophies. At twenty-nine, life is easy and carefree. His only job is to stay in the top rankings during the fishing circuit, and keep the sponsors happy. That is, until he meets hot tempered, fiery haired Danni-Rose in small-town Alabama. He has never backed down from anything too big to reel in.

Danni-Rose has spent the past six years of her life burying her past. When Benson Howell literally plows his boat right into her life, armed with simmering anger, she fights the current pulling her closer to him. With a past she can’t let go of, and the sexy fisherman breaking down all her walls, Danni-Rose does everything she can to break the line connecting her to Benson.

Will Danni-Rose be able to let go of the past? Can Benson change her mind about him? Or will they both miss the catch of a lifetime?

Read an Excerpt from Chapter 3 of Break the Line:

I’m resting back against the wall, trying not to make an ass of myself staring at Danni leaning over the pool table. She’s focused on the game and shooting her striped ball into the pocket at the far end of the table. As expected, she’s more skilled at billiards than I’d hoped. She makes a stop shot, and the ball rolls smoothly into the pocket she was aiming for. Without standing, she raises her eyes to mine and smirks.

“You tricked me,” I say, pulling the beer bottle to my mouth. The alcohol swishes through my veins. She shrugs her shoulders at me in response, again trying to hide her smile.

“Your shot, angler.” She looks over to Liza who is laughing and shaking her head at my massacre.

I point to myself. “Benson. My name is Benson.”

“Fisherman, angler... speed demon,” she says the last part with an edge.

“Awe, come on, forgive him. I ain’t never seen him so worked up over a pretty girl getting pissy about something,” Jess calls from the corner. Liza extends her pool stick and whacks him on the shoulder. “Owwww, damn it,” he cries out. He looks at her wide-eyed, rubbing his arm and his ego.

“Danni,” Liza says, pointing to her friend. “Liza,” she then says, pointing to herself. “Not pretty girl, sweet thang, sugar lips, honey, or darlin’. Got it?” Jess nods his head up and down at her. “Now, go buy me a margarita,” she commands, and Jess runs to fetch her a drink like the dog he is. Danni bends over at the waist, laughing.

“And you,” Liza says to Danni, getting her attention, “his name is Benson.” Danni scowls at her friend, then walks over to take a large drink of her beer. I stick my tongue out at Danni as I walk past her to take my shot. I sink it in the pocket and decide that I’m a better pool player when I’m a little bit drunk.

Liza hops off the bar stool and picks up her pool stick. She studies the table, and then takes aim. She over shoots the cue ball, and it ricochets off the wall of the table, causing it to smack against the eight ball. It stops inches from the corner pocket, and Danni lets out an audible gasp from across the room. “Oops,” Liza says. She walks past me and whispers, “You owe me.” I blink at her for a moment, then give her an appreciative wink. She walks over to Jess approaching with her margarita, and takes it from his hands. She rubs the top of his head saying, “Good boy.”

Jess makes the rest of his shots, and Liza magically misses the rest of hers. At some point in the night Danni realizes what is happening, and I hear her saying to her friend, “I hope a pack of rabid racoons show up at your hospital.” Liza leans over and kisses her cheek and responds by saying, “I love you, too.”

Danni pulls in the last drink of her beer, and watches me intently while I take aim for the eight ball. If I sink this one in, I gain her forgiveness. I arch my arm back and shoot. My eyes widen, watching the ball curve at an odd angle before returning to the course and sinking the eight ball directly into the pocket. I let out a loud yell, and raise my arms into the air. Liza and Jess are laughing in the corner, and Danni is shaking her head. This time she doesn’t hide her smile. This time she lets it spread across her face in amusement, and I swear I think my heart stops.

Time Travel Romance

About the Book:

May Gold, college adjunct, often dreams about the subject of her master’s thesis - Gianlorenzo Bernini. In her fantasies she’s in his arms, the wildly adored partner of the man who invented the Baroque.

But in reality, May has just landed in Rome with her teaching colleagues and older boyfriend who is paying her way. She yearns to unleash her passion and creative spirit, and when the floor under the gilded dome of St Peter’s basilica rocks under her feet, she gets her chance. Walking through the veil that appears, she finds herself in the year 1624, staring straight into Bernini’s eyes. Their immediate and powerful attraction grows throughout May’s tour of Italy. And as she continues to meet her ethereal partner, even for brief snatches of time, her creativity and confidence blossom. All the doorways to happiness seem blocked for May-all except the shimmering doorway to Bernini’s world.

May has to choose: stay in her safe but stagnant existence, or take a risk. Will May’s adventure in time ruin her life or lead to a magical new one?

Read an Excerpt from The Renaissance Club:

THE RENAISSANCE CLUB by RACHEL DACUS – EXCERPT from Chapter 29

May was hardly back in the room when Darren called and asked her to join him at dinner. When she arrived, May was relieved to see him sitting with Daphne and Becca. There was no way she could confront him now. He was quiet at the meal, letting Becca expound on how the theatricality of the Baroque, as opposed to the Renaissance, was so very Shakespearean. As the dinner plates were cleared, Daphne insisted on taking photographs, with each standing up to photograph the other three.
Becca and Daphne then surprised May by skipping dessert and leaving.
She had to ask Darren now. It was the only time she could, and after simmering with the knowledge throughout dinner, she had a drumbeat of “Why did you do it?” on her brain.
“Darren, why did you tell Norman to fire me?”
Darren seemed very surprised. “Who told you that—was it Norman? He must be confused. I told him you were thinking of trying different things, and might want a lighter load next semester.”
So, Darren had taken her offhand and stupid remark and told Norman to reduce or even eliminate her class hours.
He rushed to justify. “I said I could take care of any classes you didn’t want to pick up. Norman’s the one who got it blown out of proportion.”
“Why was it your job to tell him something I was just considering briefly? I barely make a living as it is. I need those hours.”
She could hardly look him in the eyes. This was so meddlesome and overbearing. He was used to telling her how things would be, but this was invading her decision-making. Her headache and stuffy nose suddenly overwhelmed her. Maybe it really was a misunderstanding.
She gave him the excuse. “You must have misunderstood me. I asked Norman not to lay me off. Now, I need to go and sleep.”
She stood up and was suddenly dizzy. Putting her hand on the chair back, she bent to pick up her shawl and purse. Darren leaned over and kissed her cheek. Startled, she left. Maybe he was asserting his control, making sure she understood her future lay with him. But she was too tired to think further about his motives. She staggered back to her room and was glad the others hadn’t come in yet. She lay down, her limbs burning with fatigue, and melted into the mattress.
But May was wide-awake at three a.m. She put on her earbuds so as not to wake the other women and opened her tablet. Googling “relationships,” she found a webinar called “Taking Your Intimate Relationship to the Next Level Without Involving Your Partner.” The relationship coach promised: Unleash his instinct for intimacy and a ravishing relationship will be yours! But the relationship mentor hadn’t mentioned living in different centuries.
It almost seemed like she and Darren lived on different planets. He had wanted her fired. He was setting things up to make it easy to break up with her. Had she moved on? With a man long dead? How different they were. Gianlorenzo had called her Poet and had her model for an angel. Bernini’s angels were so beautiful people even had them tattooed on their bodies. Darren thought her writing was a distraction, unless it was pointed at getting an academic publication, which he knew it wasn’t. How did she wind up attracting such an ambitious and critical man?
Could she have an intimate relationship without involving her partner’s century? She fell back asleep on that question.

Book Spotlight & #Giveaway ~ Unfinished by Amy Snyder #WomensFiction

Unfinished
Amy Snyder

Publisher: Fiery Seas Publishing

Genre: Women's  Fiction

About the Book:

Mirabelle is a writer who just can't finish any of the stories she starts. When her twins leave home for college, they take with them Mirabelle’s sense of identity. As she strives to adjust to her empty nest she is visited by someone unexpected: a character from the very first novel she ever attempted to write.

Characters from all of her unfinished works begin to materialize in her home, in her car, at her job. They talk, yell, and some even throw things at her. Mirabelle can see them, smell them, touch them and though she knows they’re not real, she can’t help but engage them. She created them, after all. They become part of her daily life and she finds herself alternating between hiding them from and sharing them with her almost-always-doting husband, Alex.

Some of Mirabelle’s characters are like good friends, encouraging her to finish something she’s started. Others manipulate her for their own needs and story lines. Good and bad, these characters are part of her and Mirabelle discovers she needs to both fix and finish them before they destroy her life, her sanity, and her marriage.
