#Review of Defiance (The Demon Hunters, Book #4) by A.S. Fenichel @asfenichel ~ @pumpupyourbook ~ #Paranormal #Historical #Romance

The Demon Hunters are about to face their biggest test, and they’ll need a lady to make the grade… Lady Serena Thurston had big plans—attend the best balls, meet a fine gentleman, get married, have a child or two and live happily ever after. But plans change. Serena knows firsthand what demons can do, and nothing will stand in the way of her goal to become a Demon Hunter—not even her absentee fiancé.

Tad Douglass is furious his fiancée has enrolled in the Demon Hunters’ school. Admittedly, he should have been more attentive after her capture by demons, but important Hunter business demanded his presence. Now, he’s forced to watch her transformation from an innocent young woman to a formidable Hunter. He’ll use every resource at his disposal to change her mind and return her to the simple life of a debutante.

When people go missing in London, Serena and Tad must investigate—together. The mistrust and love simmering between them during their perilous mission is brought to a boil at the gateway to Hell. With the lines between good and evil blurred, and death lurking at every turn, it will take a leap of faith to embrace this new partnership—as heroes and as lovers.

My Review:

As with the other books in the series, there are multiple storylines threaded through the pages. The main characters of Defiance are Serena Thurston, who is Gabriel's sister, and her fiancé, Tad Douglass. After Serena's abduction and rescue, she knows her life's meaning includes the training to become a demon hunter. She never wants to be the victim again and she wants to be able to protect and defend others. Tad, also a demon hunter, had made himself scarce since her abduction, taking care of other demon hunter duties. He realizes his mistake when he finds out Serena is training to become a demon hunter herself. As upset as Tad is with Serena's new life plan, when they find themselves working together in London, there are more important things at stake - like their simmering attraction, need for one another, and the urgency to stop the Master at all costs.

I was swept away by the story told in Defiance. The characters were well-crafted, multidimensional, and written with feeling. The world building was spectacular and I felt like I was in the story with Serena and Tad. Defiance is a fresh take on paranormal historical romance and I enjoyed every second.

The entire series captivated me and I was engaged throughout.

#Review of Betrayal (The Demon Hunters, Book #3) by A.S. Fenichel @asfenichel ~ @pumpupyourbook ~ #Paranormal #Historical #Romance

In service to His Majesty, one must be prepared for Hell.

To survive as a scullery maid requires hard work, discipline, and a stiff upper lip. To survive as a Demon Hunter is something else entirely. Elizabeth Smythe learned this after she was captured by Demons and rescued by Hunters. Now a Hunter herself, Elizabeth’s first task in this new and strange world is to aid the recently wounded Reece Foxjohn, and get him back into Demon-slaying shape. . .

Reece Foxjohn is used to defying convention. He enraged his family by becoming a Demon Hunter, and prefers eviscerating demons to mixing with society. He is a man who doesn’t hesitate when he knows what he wants, and what he wants is Miss Elizabeth Smythe. To watch her behead the progeny of Evil is to behold a thing of beauty—one he must claim for his at all costs. .

My Review:

There are multiple storylines that are threaded through the pages. One pertains to Elizabeth in the aftermath of her capture and ritualistic treatment at the hands of the Demons. Even after being rescued by the Hunters, and becoming one herself, she is still in the sights of the Demon Master. This complicates the rehabilitation of Reece, but only in the respect that he's not wholly focused on getting better and stronger; he's now trying to figure out the puzzle that is Elizabeth and the Master.

While rehabilitating and working on the link between Elizabeth and the Master, Reece has also gone and fallen head first in love with his strong willed and determined teacher. The relationship between Reece and Elizabeth is very much a rollercoaster; one that could come full circle and become a relationship or one that could break down at the very top of the highest peak, never to make it to the end of the tracks.

Plus, not only is the Master targeting Elizabeth, he's also picking off the other women who were abducted with Elizabeth, one-by-one. There is plenty of action in Betrayal - and not just battling demons and protecting women from the Master. **There are adult scenes between the pages that cause a change in the tide - and the Master is growing desperate....

I was swept away by the story told in Betrayal. The characters were well-crafted, multidimensional, and written with feeling. The world building was spectacular and I felt like I was in the story with Elizabeth and Reece. Betrayal is a fresh take on paranormal historical romance and I enjoyed every second. I'm excited to see what goes on in the next book.

#Review of Deception (The Demon Hunters, Book #2) by A.S. Fenichel @asfenichel ~ @pumpupyourbook ~ #Paranormal #Historical #Romance

When Demons threaten Regency London, only a Lady can stop them.

Lillian Dellacourt is beautiful, refined and absolutely lethal. She’s also the most feared and merciless demon hunter in The Company. She’s come a long way from the penniless seamstress’s daughter sold to the highest bidder, and it wasn’t by trusting a man, let alone an exiled Marquis with more on his mind than slaying the hellspawn.

For Dorian Lambert, Marquis de Montalembert, being sent to keep track of Lillian is no mean task. He’s wanted the fiery vixen since he first heard of her five years ago. But wooing the lady while fighting the demon uprising is no easy feat, especially when the lady’s tongue is as sharp as the Japanese sai blades she favors for eviscerating the spawn of hell.

These two will have to learn to trust each other fast, because the demon master is back, and he’s planning to turn Edinburgh into a living hell…

My Review:

Deception is the second of four books in The Demon Hunters series. Set in a time where women were raised to be prim and proper, Deception discards those expected behaviors and empowers women. Social norms are tested, boundaries stretched, and in some cases, completely discarded.

Lillian Dellacourt and Dorian Lambert are the main characters in book 2 and I love them. Lillian is fierce yet caring and Dorian is capable and protective. Both are strong characters. I enjoyed the way the author crafted the romance between Lillian and Dorian. There are tender moments and others of pure, raw passion. This story is a perfectly balanced romance with an action packed plot filled with demons, hunting, and action.

I was swept away by the story told in Deception. The characters were well-crafted, multidimensional, and written with feeling. The world building was spectacular and I felt like I was in the story with Lillian and Dorian. Deception is a fresh take on paranormal historical romance and I enjoyed every second. I'm excited to see what goes on in the next book.

When he sees her sneaking away from a ball, he’s convinced it’s for a lover’s rendezvous. Following her to London’s slums, Gabriel watches in horror as his fiancée ruthlessly slays a man.

Lady Belinda Clayton’s only concern was her dress for the next ball—until demons nearly killed her, and a group of Demon Hunters saved her life. Now, a lady by day, and a demon hunter by night, she knows where her duty lies. Ending her betrothal is the best way to protect Gabriel from death at a demon’s hands.

Gabriel soon realizes, like him, Belinda has been fighting for her country. He joins in the fight, determined to show her that their love can endure—even at the gates of Hell.

My Review:

Ascension is the first of four books in The Demon Hunters series. Set in a time where women were raised to be prim and proper, Ascension discards those expected behaviors and empowers women. Social norms are tested, boundaries stretched, and in some cases, completely discarded.

Lord Gabriel Thurston is back from war but he doesn't come home to the same girl he left. She's now a woman who's clearly harboring secrets. He assumes the worst - that she's meeting a lover - until he realizes that's not the worst thing. Witnessing her involved in a cold, hard, murder leaves Gabriel stunned, horrified, and shocked.

Lady Belinda Clayton loves Gabriel with all of her heart but in order to protect him, she tries to shun him. See, she was kidnapped by demons and nearly killed before being rescued by demon hunters. She joined forces with her saviors and is now a demon hunter herself.

Belinda is a strong character. She willing puts herself in danger every night for the good of her country. She maintains her lady-like stature during the day and goes full bore demon hunter at night. She is assertive without being nasty and doesn't hesitate when demons stroll her way. Gabriel might be her betrothed but she will not marry him if he doesn't support her extracurricular activities.

Gabriel is likewise a strong character. He knows Belinda has secrets and instead of asking around town and possibly tarnishing her reputation, he seeks to find the knowledge himself. He may come off a bit stalkerish but he clearly cares about Belinda and wants to know what secrets she harbors. He takes it upon himself to join her fight.

I was swept away by the story told in Ascension. The characters were well-crafted, multidimensional, and written with feeling. The world building was spectacular and I felt like I was in the story with Belinda and Gabriel. Ascension is a fresh take on paranormal historical romance and I enjoyed every second. Please be aware of the steamy romance scenes sure to make you blush. There are plenty but never written raunchy or like a low-budget porn. I'm excited to see what goes on in the next book.
