╰┈➤Read an Excerpt:

Furious barking woke me from a very nice dream in which my ex-fiancé Allan Hunter was on his knees, begging me to stay, and I had just flung his ring back in his face in a most satisfying manner. The fact he’d dumped me for a full-breasted bistro waitress called Tawnee—that’s right, with a double “e”—who clearly said all the right adoring things, had the intelligence of a single-celled organism, and was a tigress in the bedroom was something I chose to ignore.

The dog wouldn’t stop barking. I opened my eyes, and there he was, a beautiful russet-coloured retriever, barking like mad, but with his tail wagging. Still slightly dazed, I shook my head. What the hell was I doing lying under a tree? I was supposed to be in the library at Chelston Hall, helping Dad, who was in hospital in London with bronchitis, collate the archives of the Hadley family. I could almost hear him say, “Jane Carstairs, what on earth are you doing there when you should be working?”

The dog was still barking. I’m not afraid of dogs so I raised myself on one elbow. “Here, boy. What’s the matter?”

I held out one hand for him to come over and have a sniff as an introduction. The dog took a few steps forward, then ran back to his original spot, and barked once. Clearly, a clever canine. He was telling me something. But what? I struggled to sit up. For some reason, my clothes were constricting; something like a straitjacket encircled my chest. Instead of my casual T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers, I wore an ankle-length flowing dress, and short lace-up boots, along with a tight, short, long-sleeved jacket. I was in period costume straight out of Pride and Prejudice. Not funny! Someone had obviously pranked me but managing to undress and get me into this suffocating costume was beyond a joke. Plus, how did I get from sitting in a chair in the library to lying under a tree?

Back to the dog again, which now seemed very agitated. He ran back and forth a bit and whined. By pulling my dress and copious amounts of petticoat up to my knees, tearing something at the jacket shoulder in the process, I managed to stand. The dog ran off through the trees as if on a mission. Maybe someone was hurt, and the mutt was looking for help? Dogs can be so clever that way. Running in the narrow skirt was impossible so I hitched the skirt as high as I could and chased after the dog. Ten minutes later I arrived, panting, at the scene of a bloody accident. Bloody is no exaggeration. A man, also dressed in period costume—riding gear—lay on his back, his arms flung out. He was either asleep, or unconscious, or ... I didn’t even want to consider the last option. The dog stood next to him, its tail wagging. It looked at me, whining as if to say, “Help him.” I knelt and took a closer look. Robert William Edward Hadley, the Marquis of Coleston, lay before me. An arrow protruded from the top of his left shoulder, a massive amount of blood soaked the front of his fawn-coloured coat, and he looked very dead.

Release Day Blitz ~ The Engine in the Sky (The Dyson Bridge Series, Book Three) by V.G. Harrison #SciFi #Excerpt #TimeTravel

The Engine in the Sky
The Dyson Bridge Series
Book Three
V.G. Harrison

Genre: SciFi
Publisher: Mocha Memoirs Press
Date of Publication: 7/10/2026
Number of pages: 161
Word Count: 46,139

Cover Artist: Maya Preisler

Tagline: The greatest threat to Earth is the only one that can save it.

About the Book:

When Professor Meridia Vail’s space station is hurled across time and dimensions, she and the rest of the Bridgeway crew wake on an alternate Earth that's only five years into the future but looks like it's a century behind her technology. Their goal is to reclaim their crippled station, return to their dimension, and hope that a mysterious interdimensional illness doesn't kill her and her people first.

Stuck on a backwards version of her own planet, Meridia must deal with governments who want her technology and intelligence agencies who want control. Nobody trusts anyone, and the longer they delay, the closer the Bridgeway gets to a catastrophic reentry.

However, the greatest shock comes when Meridia meets her doppelganger, a brilliant mechanic with a loving family that leaves her heart aching for the life she could have had.

As time is running out for her crew and New Earth, Meridia faces an impossible mission: return to the station, save her crew, and prevent a global disaster. Duty first. Family second. When Meridia is thrust into a situation where the two become synonymous, she must decide how much she's willing to risk for a world she's sworn to save and a life she can never have.

Read an Excerpt:

"If you must blame someone, blame me," Dr. Wei said. "Mr. Cooper takes his orders from me, as does the rest of my crew. He was acting on those orders, which the rest of my people were unaware of for obvious reasons."

"Dr. Wei, you’re our guest, albeit a rogue one at best. It’s about time you and your crew acted like it. You want NASA on your side and you have it. But this stunt does nothing except set back relations between us. Our trust has been—"

"Violated? Whether NASA was aware of Homeland Security’s intentions or not, our expectations of trust and respect do not stop at your organization."

"We had nothing to do with this!" She huffed for a moment as if she were gathering her thoughts. "The feds are not under my jurisdiction."

"Why not?" Cal replied over the comm. "Seeing as we’re on your base, you would think you’d know what your other guests are up to at all times, too."

"I can’t speak to that, but someone had damn well better tell me who authorized movement of the pod from the landing site in the first place." That last part sounded like she was talking to those outside of the MCC and not us. If she didn’t know about the attempted theft of our pod, then who did?

"The CIA," an officer said over his earpiece. "We had orders from our agency to move the pod to a more secure location where it couldn’t be accessed by any foreign entities."

"You’re an idiot," I replied. "You can’t get more secure than outer space, which is where it was going."

Jaxon activated the thirty-second countdown on the glass and the flashing security lights to warn people back. He must have finished laying out the course and double-checking his calculations. I began waving everyone out of the area. None of them wanted to leave, so I started shoving them to get their attention. It took a tremendous amount of thrust to get those engines revved high enough to push the pod through the Earth’s gravity.

"No way." Several of the officers began to move, but the lead guy didn’t. "I have my orders. That pod stays here."

"Your orders are going to get you blown to pieces, if you don’t get out of the way," I shouted. "There’s an initial blast to give the pod a jumpstart."

"He shuts those engines down now or I’ll blow a hole through the glass." He aimed his gun. "Tell him to stand down! Now!"

Worry etching his face, Jaxon pressed his hands against the glass at T-minus ten seconds. Once the engines started, turning them off wasn’t advised, since the ignition already used up a third of the power cell. Igniting it again, the pod will never make it back to the Bridgeway without a recharge. I doubted the feds would allow us to let the solar panels sit in the sun for even six minutes without trying to steal it.

Since the stupid officer wasn’t going to move, I raced back and heaved him out of the way. A blast sent us flying. We tumbled down a small hill. Pain sliced through my upper arm before we landed in the grass. We watched the pod rocket into the air.

"Damn it!" The officer leaped off the ground and stared. He turned his ire on me. "We had our orders! Keep the pod safe."

"Too bad your orders didn’t include the Bridgeway crew." Unable to move my throbbing arm, I crawled toward the tablet, grabbed it, and prayed it hadn’t been cracked in our nosedive.

Pain shot through my arm again. When I touched the spot, I noticed blood coating my palm. It hurt like someone stuck a hot poker through my skin and out the other side. Thankfully, it was the meatier side, but it still stung like hellfire.

And here, within the ancient circle, the barrier between the physical world and the spirit pool was thin. He could hear them now, whispering to each other in the wind.

Waawaashkeshi breathed deeply, looked up into the tree foliage, and asked the spirits the question that was weighing on him.

“Was that really necessary? The hungry cougar? The human stalking me? This flea? The problem at the river? I nearly broke my neck. It is still sore.”

Waawaashkeshi stretched his neck upward and to the side in a circular motion, lifting his chin. He was speaking to himself. Listening for an answer that would come from within.

“Am I not a chosen deer? Why do you not protect me from such things?”

The spirit’s answer seemed to whisper through his mind like wind through the leaves.

“Waawaashkeshi, you know that physically, you are an ordinary deer. You learn from experience as any other living thing learns from experience. You are as big and strong as your kind can be. Your chances of survival are better than other deer because of your strength and the wisdom you’ve gained from your experiences. Your adversaries are mighty, which will only make you stronger … if you survive. Your judgment grows, like a river fed by many streams. You would never be able to understand what you must learn if you were not an ordinary deer who faces real suffering. You are not protected from the natural trials of life because trials are a part of life. Do you think you could understand the strength of the river without such a crossing? Do you think you would have found out about the living soil if you had not crossed the river? Knowing such things is important. Your experiences will guide you in the future. They will help you understand the natural world, the forest, and its inhabitants. They will help you survive. These are your lessons.”

My Review:

To Murder a Marquis is a fantastic book. I loved every single bit of Jane Carstairs' adventures back to 1815. I was swept up in Jane's travel from 2015 back to 1815. Awakening in the same location but in a different century, Jane assumes the role of Amelia, her long distant relative to find the marquis lays dying in the road. It is up to Jane to figure out who wants him dead.

This mystery pulled me in and kept me engaged. The "accidents" Robert is involved in are daring and too plentiful to be anything but assassination attempts. To keep her time period intact, Jane knows what she needs to do. Keeping Robert safe is action one. Finding out who wants him dead is action two. Not falling in love with a man who is destined to marry Jane's descendant is action three. All three actions are harder to accomplish than she thought.

I run in phases with historical fiction. I have to really be in the mood for regency stories. If I'm not, then the way women were regarded back then really affects my mood and how I perceive a story. I found The Murder a Marquis to be delightful, entertaining, and easy to fall in love with. The setting is vivid and descriptive. The characters so well-written. The plot fleshed out quite nicely. I really felt like I was transported into the book.

All lovers of historical fiction should read To Murder a Marquis.

I was provided with a copy of this book. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

My Rating:

Here’s what reviewers are saying about To Murder a Marquis!

“Arabella Sheraton seamlessly transports readers back to the Regency era, bringing the period to life with rich immersive details and offering a great balance of gripping suspense, vivid historical imagery, and passionate romance.”

— K.C Finn, author of The Mind’s Eye

"A delightful time-travel adventure that transports the reader to the captivating world of Regency England. Author Arabella Sheraton weaves an enthralling tale of mystery, romance, and self-discovery as modern-day historian Jane Carstairs finds herself unexpectedly swept back in time to the year 1815. The vivid historical details bring the Regency setting to life, allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in this milieu of grand estates and old-fashioned courtship rituals. The gripping suspense and clever twists kept me turning the pages, eager to uncover the truth alongside Jane..."

Read an Excerpt from Industrial Honey:

"What are you doing here?"

"Nice to see you too, Chronos."

Chronos grunted and turned away from his door, leaving it open for Persephone and the bee—who, she had learned, was named Glykiá—to follow. She shut the door behind them and followed Chronos into the kitchen.

She said kitchen, but really it was little more than a barren, stone room. If the Underworld was the most advanced of the realms, Olympus was by far the least, stuck back in antiquity. There was no such thing as refrigeration or even electricity. Some of the gods had rudimentary plumbing in their homes, but most did not. Persephone made a note to avoid all restrooms until she was in the mortal realm.

Chronos plunked himself into a sturdy wooden chair drawn up to the only table in the room, and tucked into a breakfast of fruit, bread, and cheese. "What do you want?" he asked, not offering either breakfast or a chair.

Persephone helped herself to the latter, dropping into the seat across from Chronos, but refraining from touching his breakfast.

"I need a favour," she said, and Chronos speared her with a withering gaze.

"The last time you said that, you wanted me to go out with your mother. Worst date of my life."

"How many times do I have to apologize for that? I had no idea she'd spend the whole date crying about Zeus. They broke up three centuries earlier. But I'll give you a favour in return. Whatever you want."

"What do you want?" Chronos repeated, unmoved.

"Time travel."

Chronos, the god of time, could send her back anywhere in time with a snap of his fingers.

"I thought you liked the futuristic glamour of the Underworld."

"I do. My trip is for business rather than pleasure. In the mortal realm."

Chronos laughed harshly. "There's the catch. You know the treaty prevents me from using magic in the mortal realm."

"I thought the time doors operated between realms?"

"They do," Chronos said, aggravation deepening the lines on his face.

"Then you wouldn't be using magic in the mortal realm, technically. Please, Chronos."

"Fine, whatever," Chronos snapped. "If I agree, will you leave me alone to finish my breakfast?"

"I would have been gone five minutes ago," Persephone agreed.

"Then I'll do it. Also, I want a latte."

"A latte?"

"From the mortal realm. We haven't had any coffee in Olympus since the treaty and I despise going to the mortal realm for it."

"Then I'll bring you a latte."
