Genre: Contemporary Romance
Tropes: Fake Relationship/Strangers to Lovers
Release Date: August 20, 2023

Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward are excited to bring you the Cocky Hero Club: original works from various authors inspired by Keeland and Ward's New York Times bestselling Cocky Bastard series.

BLURB

From award-winning and international best-selling author Melanie A. Smith comes a steamy standalone novel in the Cocky Hero world.

Zelda

Life as a Las Vegas fake wedding coordinator has never been boring.

Unfortunately for me, it just got a little too exciting … the bad kind of exciting that lands you in the emergency room.

On the bright side, it was a hot paramedic who showed up to save the day. Sure, he’s a bit cocky, but it works for him. And now I can’t get him out of my mind … which was the good kind of exciting until it wasn’t. Until one date turned into a fake marriage fiasco.

Now I don’t know if we’re really falling for each other or if it’s all an act.

Ty

Being a paramedic in Vegas, I’ve seen it all. Or I thought I had until I got a call for a fall victim who’d tripped over a swan and tumbled into a pond.

Luckily for her, I follow up with my patients — especially the pretty ones — and I made sure she was on the road to recovery in no time. And by “road to recovery,” I obviously mean ready to go on a date with me.

But unluckily for me, our first real date found me waking up hungover only to discover that we’d gotten married the night before.

Or so I thought. Turns out we weren’t actually married. But I didn’t know that when I let it slip to my dying mother, whose last wish is for me to find someone to take care of me once she’s gone.

Really, it’s my job to take care of people. But with three hearts on the line? Even I’m not that good. And I know someone’s heart is bound to get broken.

My Review:

Zelda and Ty are truly fantastic characters. Zelda is a strong, caring character but she has a less-than-perfect past. A past that shaped who she is today. Ty, too, is a strong and caring character. He is dealing with a situation no child should ever have to endure, let alone at such a young age. Which is why, when he finds out his marriage to Zelda is fake, after telling his mother he got married, Ty can’t bring himself to tell her the truth. Her days left on earth are few and he wants her to be happy all the way to the end.

I really enjoyed Pompous Paramedic. The author's writing style is conversational and inviting. The book is engaging, with wonderfully developed characters, and a setting that is described perfectly. I was able to get into the story, stay connected to the characters, and work through the issues between Zelda and Ty. The author did a great job realistically delving into terminal illness, family dynamics, and the complications in relationships.

Pompous Paramedic is a great book and I highly recommend it.

I was provided a copy of this book.

From award-winning and international best-selling author Melanie A. Smith comes an angsty, steamy novella in the Hot Vegas Nights world.

He saved her life. Now she’s in more trouble than ever…

Sebastian Hernandez, a Las Vegas paramedic, is called to tend to a fallen performer in an acrobatic performance gone wrong. When he locks eyes with the dark beauty, her gaze holds so much more than the pain of her injury, and he’s drawn to her in a way he’s never been drawn to anyone before.

Kira Luan, an aerial acrobat, is trapped in a contract that keeps her at the mercy of her controlling ex-boyfriend. While she longs for a life free to perform, to live, and to find love, fear rules her every move. So much so that it distracted her to the point of injury.

When Kira is left with little choice but to accept Sebastian’s help — and offer of a place to stay — the distance from her problems and her growing closeness with Sebastian begin to crack open the well of her suppressed desires. With him, she heals in more ways than one and finally has the strength to end the relationship with her ex.

But now, both of their lives will be in danger as Kira faces her past to fight for her future. Will she win her freedom and the chance to be with Sebastian, or will she lose it all?

Bad Boys Don’t Make Good Boyfriends
Melanie A. Smith
(Life Lessons, #2)
Publication date: May 19th 2020
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
From best-selling author Melanie A. Smith comes the second book in a new series of steamy contemporary medical romance standalone novels about life lessons that break all the rules.
About the Book:
Even when you know better, sometimes it’s simply too tempting…
Hospital work isn’t for the faint of heart. Becca Dillon knows that firsthand, having worked as a medical assistant in the cardiac unit at Rutherford Hospital for longer than she cares to think about. What she does care to think about is having fun, gossip, and … guys. Her favorite of the three. And why stick to one, when you can sample them all?
That’s exactly her plan when a workplace crush on a mysterious bad-boy orderly unexpectedly takes a very steamy turn. But Vincent DeMarco turns out to be nothing like she expected, and before she knows it, she’s falling hard and fast. She wants him in ways she’s never wanted anyone before, but there’s something he’s keeping from her. Something that’s holding him back. And Becca is going to find out what.
Even though she knows that bad boys don’t make good boyfriends, he seems like he might be so much more. Will her quest unlock the truth behind who he really is? Or will it end their relationship for good? Either way, ready or not, Becca’s world is about to change.
