The ninth installment in the hit Quilting Mystery series by Mary Marks finds sleuth Martha searching for her fiancé’s ex-wife.

One loose thread threatens to unravel Martha’s wedding plans: the groom-to-be married a pregnant teen to save her from scandal thirty years ago—and the marriage was never annulled. Now Crusher’s wife Hadas is coming to LA, along with his sister Fanya. But soon after she arrives, their houseguest goes missing, with her room ransacked and a chloroform-soaked cloth left behind. Could her apparent abduction be connected to her brother’s unsolved death from a hit-and-run six months ago? Martha and her quilting cohorts must find the pattern to solve the twin mysteries and determine if Crusher is still married—or now a widower . . .

My Review:

Martha Rose is finally ready to tie the knot with Crusher. When she makes the announcement one Friday night at dinner, Crusher doesn't display the excitement one would think he should after spending the previous 8 books asking her repeatedly. Come to find out, Crusher has a secret - a 30-year-marriage-to-someone-else kind of a secret. Crusher's wife, Hadas, and Crusher's sister, Fanya, fly across country to L.A. to handle some business with Crusher but shortly after their arrival, Hadas, is forcibly removed from Crusher and Martha's home. Martha must now try to figure out if Hadas' disappearance is related to the hit-and-run death of her brother or because of another reason.

Martha continues to evolve and improve as a crime solver/fighter. She does the best she can in the situations presented to her, and this situation is personal. In Knot Ready for Murder, Martha manages to accomplish more than those assigned to the murder case. When you have a rapport with people like Martha does, it’s no wonder she gets adults and children to open up to her. She also has resources she can use to assist her in getting the information requires.

I love all the characters in the Quilting Mysteries by Mary Marks. The relationship between Martha and Crusher is sweet and I’m honestly glad she is with him. He is so devoted to Martha and her to Crusher. The goings-on in book 9 are but a bump in the road to their happiness. The quilting group is a riot and totally have Martha’s back. I really feel like they are all my friends since we’ve now been together for nine books now. I hope we continue to get more books in this series.

Mary Marks does another wonderful job building up the mystery and keeping everything a secret. The truth of the situation is revealed at the perfect time and the person responsible is not the person I thought it would be. I was completely off-base. The writing flows well and is concise. The author's writing style is fluid and smooth and so easy to get lost in you don't realize how fast you read the book. The entire novel is engaging; never a dull moment.

I was provided a copy of this book read.

My Review:

Knot My Sister's Keeper by Mary Marks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Knot My Sister’s Keeper is a different book than the rest of them in the Quilting Mystery series. This book is very personal to Martha. After submitting her DNA through an ancestry database, Martha learns that she has a sibling, a half-sister named Giselle Cole. The exact opposite of Martha, Giselle is rich, glamorous, and tactless. What they do have in common is the want of family and to know why their father disappeared without a trace so many years ago. An up-and-coming artist, their father disappeared at the high of his career, never to be heard from or seen again.

The emotional content in this book is heightened due to the personal nature of the situation. Thinking she had limited family members, Martha can’t believe that she has a half-sister. When the gravity of the situation surrounding their father comes to light, the new-found sisters know they have to try and find him. This entire book was an emotional rollercoaster. I liked the unique spin of this book compared to the rest of the books in this series.

Martha Rose is the typical heroine - totally not a crime solver/fighter but makes it her duty to dive in head first whether there's water in the pool or not. Martha Rose puts herself into vary precarious situations and breaks a lot of laws in her quest to find the killer. During downtime in the quest to find their father, Martha still holds the quilting sessions that now include others besides Lucy and Birdie. Giselle, even though she is thoughtless in the things she says does take an active interest in Martha and Crusher’s Jewish customs and traditions, bringing the two sisters that much closer together. The relationship between Martha and Crusher is sweet and I’m honestly glad she is with him. He is so devoted to Martha and she to Crusher.

Mary Marks does another wonderful job building up the mystery and keeping everything a secret. The truth of the situation is revealed at the perfect time and the person responsible is not the person I thought it would be. The writing flows well and is concise. The author's writing style is fluid and smooth and so easy to get lost in. The romantic elements of Knot My Sister's Keeper are subtle and don't overshadow the mystery. The entire novel is engaging; never a dull moment.

Book #Review: Knot What You Think (A Quilting Mystery, Book 5) by Mary Marks #CozyMystery

Knot What You Think
A Quilting Mystery, Book 5

Cozy Mystery

July 25, 2017

Mass Market Paperback: 288 pages

ISBN-13: 978-1496701824
E-Book ASIN: B01M8OZL19

About the Book:

The newest member of Martha’s close-knit quilting circle has an eye for couture. But when the designer’s fingerprints are found blanketing a crime scene, Martha must prove that he didn’t have a hand in homicide!

Martha Rose is alarmed by the discovery of Dolleen Doyle’s dead body, especially when evidence suggests a fellow quilter committed the crime. Set on clearing her pal, Martha searches for answers—but with ties to a convicted fraudster’s stolen millions and a secret office room, the victim’s past raises even more questions. As Martha inches towards the culprit, she learns that wrapping the case up—and living to baste another square—will be trickier than she ever imagined . . .

Add to Your Shelf on Goodreads:

Martha, Birdie, Lucy, and Jazz are back in Mary Marks' 5 book in her Quilting Mystery series.  Jazz is a murder suspect when one of his friends, Dolleen Doyle, is found dead.  Jazz's prints are all over the murder weapon and inside Dolleen's home.  Knowing he isn't a murderer Martha begins her sleuthing to help clear Jazz's name.   Her beau, Crusher, supports her as she puts clues together and creates a murder board.  Her ex, Arlo, isn't nearly as big of a fan.

As the murder investigation continues, Martha discovers that Dolleen had some skeletons in her closet.  As she gets closer to identifying the suspect, much to the chagrin of the real detectives, things heat up.  Add in a boyfriend and an ex-boyfriend and the murder of Dolleen isn't the only thing heating up.  Danger mounts as the mystery unfolds - and there is more than one story line that takes place in Knot What You Think.

Martha Rose is the typical heroine - totally not a crime solver/fighter but makes it her duty to dive in head first whether there's water in the pool or not. Martha Rose puts herself into vary precarious situations and breaks a lot of laws in her quest to find the killer. Birdie and Lucy are great sidekicks and I enjoy theirs roles in each Quilting Mystery.  The women quilt together, providing a bit of murder mystery down time

Mary Marks does another wonderful job building up the mystery and keeping the responsible party a secret. The truth of the situation is revealed at the perfect time and the person responsible is not the person I thought it would be.  The writing flows well and is concise.  The author's writing style is fluid and smooth and so easy to get lost in.  The romantic elements of Knot What You Think are subtle and don't overshadow the mystery.  The entire novel is engaging; never a dull moment.
