Book Blast ~ The Grateful Green Dinosaur by Larissa Pemberton ~ #ChildrensBook #PictureBook @GoddessFish

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Larissa Pemberton will be awarding a $10 Amazon/BN gift card to a randomly drawn winner. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Percy the green dinosaur explores practicing gratitude with the help of his friend Custard the unicorn, to turn his bad day around by turning his negative thoughts into positive ones. As a society, we often tend to focus on the negative. Teaching children to practice gratitude and shift their mindset toward the positive can lay the foundation for a happier, more fulfilling life.

Read an Excerpt:

“Yes, our minds are so much more powerful than you could ever imagine! How about we try and shift your mindset from focusing on the negative things to being grateful for the good things?” suggests Custard.

“We can try that. I don’t like feeling sad,” says Percy.

“What are some things that you love and are grateful for?” asks Custard. “Think of as many things as you can!” they encourage. “When I’m feeling sad, I try and think of all the things that I’m grateful for and what makes me happy, and soon I don’t feel sad anymore! I’m grateful for my pet dog Buddy and that it is summertime. I love summer!”

“Oh, I’m grateful for my mummy and daddy. I’m grateful for the cosy cave that we live in. I’m grateful for my toys, I’m grateful that I’m healthy, and I’m grateful for you!” exclaims Percy excitedly.

About the Book:

.“We the Dreamers” describes the journey of immigrating to a new place through the eyes of a child. The narrative text is poetic and full of emotion. The illustrations, which seem to dance and sing, convey the story of crossing borders as a child.

This children’s picture book, told alternatively in English and in Spanish, highlights all the emotions immigrants experience throughout their journey: the characters end up feeling mystified, bemused, or even bewildered upon entering the United States.

Using colorful, imaginative illustrations and poetic narrative, “We the Dreamers” connects with its readers in an emotional and compassionate way, and it opens up the floor to holding conversations about immigration with children.

About the Author:

She has a doctorate in leadership in higher education and works as a public librarian. She is the author of “Mama Tingo,” “María Montez, the Queen of Technicolor,” and “Little Giants: 10 Hispanic Women Who Made History.” “We the Dreamers” is her second fiction book for children. She lives in New York with an untamed Shih Tzu, Toby, and a much-attached Chihuahua, Maya. She spends her free time thinking (and drafting) about books to write, painting, crocheting, and crying over abused dogs.

Picture Book
Date Published: 5/5/2020

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

About the Book:

The first day of school is coming… and I’m going to be in the noisy class. Any class but the noisy class will do!

A young girl is about to enter the third grade, but this year she’s put into Ms. Johnson’s noisy class. Everything about the noisy class is odd. While all the other classes are quiet, Ms. Johnson sings and the kids chatter all day. The door is always closed, yet sounds from it can be heard in the hallway. With summer coming to an end and school starting, the girl realizes that soon she’ll be going to the noisy class. What will school be like now?

Featuring the honest and delightful humor of debut author Angela Shanté and the bold, graphic imagery of debut illustrator Alison Hawkins, The Noisy Classroom encourages those with first-day jitters to reevaluate a scary situation by looking at it from a different angle and to embrace how fun school can be, even in nontraditional ways.

Book Review: Don't Ever Look Behind Door 32 by B.C.R. Fegan

Don't Ever Look Behind Door 32Don't Ever Look Behind Door 32 by B.C.R. Fegan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Amazon

About the Book:

The magical Hotel of Hoo is a mysterious place with some very unusual occupants. As our guests explore the strange hotel, they are invited to experience everything it has to offer with just one warning… don’t ever look behind door 32.

This imaginative picture book aims to take children beyond the first ten cardinal numbers, and introduces them to the patterns of counting in a fun and accessible way. With rooms to explore and unique objects to count, children will enjoy lingering on each page as they make their way closer to the forbidden door.

My Review:

Don’t Ever Look Behind Door 32 is a cute picture book that takes place in the Magical Hotel of Hoo. The book features several teaching points for children. At the Magical Hotel of Hoo, host Mr. Nicholas Hoo, takes a couple of guests through a list of rooms. Some feature guests, others feature residents.

As Mr. Hoo goes from room to room, children reading the story will learn to count past 10. Young readers will also view vibrant and interesting pictures of the hotel and its inhabitants. Children will also see and being to understand how important it is to listen to and follow directions – like not looking behind Door 32. Young readers will also enjoy the easy words and rhyming pattern of the story.

A must read for beginners.

I was given a copy of this book to read.
