Hustled by Roya Carmen ~ #Sports #SportsRomance #Romance

Hustled
Roya Carmen
Publication date: November 20th 2025
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Sports

Fun and Games.
An indecent proposal.
And a whole lot of heartbreak.

Pro billiards player Caine Hall is hot as hell. When he walks into the pool hall I co-own with my husband Reeves, I nearly fall all over myself. Over a few playful games, we get to know each other. He’s smooth and sly, and Reeves instantly hates his guts. He’d kick him out if Mr. Hall didn’t just happen to be our landlord.

He says he wants to help us, and we’re all ears. But when he makes us an outrageous proposal, we can’t believe the gall of the man. Caine wants to spend time with me. It’s innocent enough, albeit very weird. We’re desperate because we’re behind on our rent, so eventually, after much pondering, we reluctantly accept.

Caine treats me like a princess and shows me a whole new world. He takes things slow, just like he does at the pool table. Yet… he scares me — he’s intense and obsessive. And as he abuses his power, his demands and proposals intensify.

Reeves and I are falling apart. We keep telling ourselves we’ll say no next time, but Caine has got us both under his spell, efficiently manipulating us both in very different ways.

I’m anxious about my marriage and my unpredictable, hot-tempered husband. Yet I can’t stop thinking about Caine. He’s in my head. He’s under my skin. Reeves and I have agreed that this is simply a financial arrangement, something we’re doing for our livelihood.

So why have I let Caine hustle his way into my heart?

Hustled is a STANDALONE story. It will be part of a series of 3 standalone books – related but separate stories.

Read an Excerpt:

“I officially rescind any future proposals. There will be no money. You’re absolutely right. You’re not a whore, and I’ve been completely out of line. You may go now.”

My jaw drops to the floor. Who does this guy think he is? “I may go now?”

“Yes, please go. ” He pulls away, and I ache for him. The sudden absence of his warmth leaves me hollow inside, like someone has scooped out my insides with a cold spoon.

My body betrays me completely—my skin prickles with goosebumps, my breath catches in my throat, and there’s this terrible, painful emptiness that only he can fill. I lean forward slightly, instinctively chasing his touch before I catch myself.

The space between us feels charged with electricity, crackling with unspoken need. A hint of his cologne—that tangy, distinct scent—still lingers in my nostrils, teasing me, reminding me of how close he was just seconds ago. My fingers twitch at my sides, wanting to reach out, to pull him back against me.

I hate the power he has over me. I hate how my body responds to his without my permission, like it belongs to him instead of me. But I can’t deny the physical ache that spreads through me, radiating from my core outward, making me feel both weak and desperately alive at the same time.

I shove him hard.

He recovers quickly. “Do I need to call security? ”

I watch him as he walks away from me. I’ve really done it this time. What must the man think of me? He reaches into his desk. For a chequebook? For a security button?

I huff. I hate him so much, I can’t stand it. “And another thing, Mister. You’re not as perfect as you think. One of your ears sticks out more than the other… it makes you look goofy.”

His gaze reaches mine, and that maddening smile curves his lips again. “Is that so? I never realized. Thank you so much for bringing that to my attention, Jenna.”

Just as he’s about to take a seat at his desk, he changes his mind and stands. “Let me show you out,” he says cooly, and every syllable grates me — how dare he be so calm and collected, when I just want to rip his head off.

But when we get to the door, he presses me against it, his body claiming mine—and I lose complete control.

I’m his. All his.

His hands find the hem of my skirt, rough and demanding as he hikes it up. My back presses against the cold door, a stark contrast to the heat of his body pinning me there. I gasp as his fingers trail up my thighs, leaving fire in their wake.

“Tell me to stop,” he whispers, his breath hot against my neck. “Tell me you don’t want this.”

But I can’t. The words won’t come. All I can manage is a desperate whimper as his hands climb higher, stroking the sensitive skin of my inner thighs. My head falls back against the door with a soft thud.

“Caine,” I breathe, my voice barely recognizable to my own ears.

“You!” Cook exclaimed.

Emily grinned, showing teeth. It was a nervous reaction that almost always got her into more trouble than she started with.

“Aw, forget it,” the fat woman waved a chubby hand as if swatting at a buzzing fly, “I don’t work here no more. There’s no sense in us both being miserable. Shoo, little one, before the Lady takes notice.”

But it was too late, the Lady had taken notice. Emily could see her through the open doorway beyond Cook’s wide frame. Dorothea was wearing her usual high collared grey dress, severe in colour and style, and without any curves to soften her presence. There was no discernible expression on her stony features, but Emily knew she was in deep trouble regardless.

“Emily,” Dorothea commanded, pinning her with a stare colder than the tiles beneath her feet. “Come here.”

Emily did as she was told and squeezed past Cook into the lavishly decorated dining room with its dark mahogany furniture and brass fixtures. She made no attempt at hiding the scone in her hand; it was too late for that.

Dorothea eyed the baked good for a moment, saying nothing. Emily frowned and bobbed a deep curtsey, trying to come across as polite and respectful, even if she felt neither. “I was going to toss it in the bin,” she lied. “It’s far too small and lumpy to be served with the others.”

Dorothea regarded her shrewdly for a moment and Emily remained with her head bowed and her eyes downcast. “Yes, well, we should never waste food, no matter its appearance,” she counselled, when Emily could have sworn that last week she’d reprimanded Cook for serving something that wasn’t visually to her liking. “You may have it,” she continued, uncharacteristically magnanimous, given the circumstances, “provided your hands haven’t already contaminated it beyond the point of safety.”

“Oh, I’m sure it’s fine.” Emily brightened and immediately straightened her spine to look Dorothea in the eye. “I mean, I will make sure it is not wasted. Thank you, my Lady.”

Maybe she isn’t planning to make me leave like the others, then. And since she’s given me the scone, that means no lashes either! Emily could barely contain her elation, but Dorothea was still regarding her with that cold, blue-eyed stare. Emily stiffened again, swallowing hard. “Was there something else my Lady wanted?”

“Yes, in fact,” Dorothea answered, “a great many things, but this afternoon I must settle for what I have. Emily, as you know, we have had to make some concessions around here.” Emily stumbled over the word ‘concessions’ and silently vowed to look it up in the library later. “After the incident with Darla, and now with the cook’s departure…”

Emily’s belly started to grumble for a different reason. Maybe she is going to send me away after all. It would explain letting me have the scone. Is this how it went with Darla, Sophie, and Cook? Panic started to set in and she fought the urge to flee, knowing Dorothea would only grow more displeased with her if she did. Where would I even go? I’ve never been anywhere else my whole life.

Emily was eighteen now, or thereabouts. She didn’t know her exact birthday, but she did know that her parents had given her into the Hyatt’s care when she was very young. Too young to remember anything before her service at Hyatt House.

“Child, are you even listening to me?” Dorothea demanded.

“Yes, of course, my Lady,” Emily lied again, snapping her attention to the mole on the right side of Dorothea’s mouth and locking it there.

Growing up, Emily had made a game out of pretending that the Hyatts were her real family. Donovan and Sebastian Hyatt, Dorothea’s sons, were just a few years her junior and, in her mind at least, she liked to think of them as her pesky younger brothers. They were off apprenticing now to learn a trade. Sometimes Emily missed them, though Sebastian had been a loud-mouthed terror and Donovan an entitled prick. Then there was Lady Anastasia Hyatt, her aging grandmother and matriarch of the House, now shut up on the third floor of the house and bed-ridden so that none saw her other than Becca and, she assumed, Dorothea on occasion.

Then, and of course, there was Dorothea; her mother, or at the very least, her evil stepmother. And her father, Lord Benedict Hyatt, who had died when she was four and left a angry, tragic widow and a bereft child behind. Lord Hyatt had been injured heroically in the revolutionary war, and had died at home in Emily’s arms when his wounds festered upon his return.

She’d gotten so caught up in the fantasy that she’d slipped up once and called Dorothea ‘Mother.’ That had earned her two weeks of the worst chores imaginable and twenty strokes of the lash. She’d never made that mistake again.

“So are we clear, then?” Dorothea asked, tapping her foot.

“I’m sorry?” Emily said before realizing that was the exact wrong reaction.

Dorothea pursed her lips, tightened her brows, and said, “Five lashes for failing to listen to instructions and Becca can fill you in on your new duties. You’ll be working with her now.”

“But who will be giving the lashes now that Cook’s gone?” Emily regretted the words as soon as they were out of her mouth.

Dorothea scowled. “Make that six, just for lip, and I’ll be giving them to you myself just as soon as you’ve cleaned yourself up. I won’t be touching that filthy body of yours.”

Dorothea’s lashings are the worst. Ugh. Emily eyed the scone in her hands. At least one good thing had come out of today.

Dorothea must have followed her gaze because she said, “And you can throw that mashed up scone to the birds, it’s not fit for human consumption.”

Consumption, Emily repeated the new word in her mind, storing it for later. Her spirits dropped, the scone gone the way of so many other good things she’d tried to hold onto in her life. “Yes, my Lady.”

Read an Exclusive Excerpt:

When they brought her father’s body home, Rhea Saline did not cry. Straight-backed, she put one foot in front of the other in the wake of six men in blue and brown leathers. Their shaved heads were bared with top knots smooth and glistening with oil, their faces held to the sky even though the icy, wet wind cut at them mercilessly as they carried the Clan Chief’s hulking form on a litter up the long winding mountain trail.

Within the deep shadows of her dark blue cloak and shrouded by thick curling strands of her long, dark hair, Rhea was protected from the rain and the wind, but the weather wasn’t what concerned her. Through the thick fabric, she felt the stares of her people on her back and knew the entire Clan was watching her every movement; scrutinizing her.

But in her mind’s eye she was watching not this funeral, but another. The body, wrapped in old, off-white linens, had been smaller then, and her vision blurred by tears, not rain. That day, in the last dying embers of a long summer, her father had stood where she stood now, his shoulders broad and straight, and he had been the one to stare at her, scrutinize her, and find her wanting. She remembered hating him for it.

Now, it was his body they prepared to hoist onto the pyre.

As they reached the sacred plateau where those loved by the Clan were sent on, her former position was occupied by her younger brother, Rygal. Technically, he was Rygal Saline the Second, but as the first of his name was two steps from the pyre, the point seemed moot. Tall and lean, and dressed more like a scholar than a warrior, her brother at least knew where to stand by instinct, not like how she had needed to be shown. But he was a man grown, not a child like she had been when their mother passed. However, she could hear him sniffling, fighting back the emotions that threatened to overwhelm him. Without thinking, she wordlessly thrust a handkerchief in his direction, just as her father had done to her all those years ago.

I’m just like him. The thought was as clear and sharp as the cold mountain air. He raised me to be just like him.

Rhea glanced back once more at Rygal, taking in their obvious similarities in his nearly black hair, strong jaw and nose, and the blue of his eyes, while equally noticing his differences: his slight build, the hunch in his posture from too much time spent bent over a desk, and the way he shivered at the chill in the air. He would never take his place among the warriors of their clan, but she also knew that wasn’t what he wanted.

Rygal caught her eye and tried to smile encouragingly. She lifted the corners of her mouth to return the gesture, but turned away before the expression could become a grimace.

This Clan lost its heart when it lost my mother and it won’t regain it with me in my father’s place. Rygal’s gloved hand slid into her bare one, squeezing it, and Rhea felt the first hint of tears sting her eyes. She fought them, directing her gaze skyward to meet the icy rain head-on. Rygal probably wouldn’t agree with me, and the clan certainly wouldn’t, but Jaram needs a nurturer like my mother was. She thought about the clan she knew now and the clan of her youth; things had changed, grown harder in many ways.

We’ve gone too long with only the tough love of my father and it’s not enough. As a border nation, Jaram was a Clan of warriors, herself included, but in her father’s time as Chief they had become less focused on just defending the borders and more focused on keeping them closed. They were obsessed with being the best, the strongest, feared. The clan now lived and breathed for the fight, but they no longer fought for the freedom to live and breathe. We’ve lost our way.

The six clansmen before her parted to allow the clan’s resident Priestess of Saegard to join them nearest to the pyre. A petite dark-haired young woman barely visible under her thick grey cloak, May was nothing like Rhea had always pictured the sisters of the fabled order she’d read about as a child, but she was what the clan had been sent. May’s thin, reedy voice began the funeral dirge, her high pitch in stark contrast to the low, deep voices of the six clansmen who joined her soon after. The sound was low at first, competing with the hush of the rain and the moaning of the wind, but as more and more clanspeople reached the snow-dusted plateau and filled it, they joined in and their voices blended together, growing in strength and number.

The combined sound swelled, rising and lowering in turns, undulating on the wind. There were so many voices now; the clan had grown large and strong. Awed by the sheer force of their song, Rhea turned, looking out over the plateau at the mass of gathered clanspeople. It was as she had feared, they were looking back at her. It was one thing to feel their stares on her back, but another to face them head on and find them not just looking at her but to her, for leadership.

She could see it. See herself leading them into battle. Clan Jaram had become the strongest of all the Clans, even larger now than the High Clan of Haldor, the one all the other Clans had chosen to represent them to the outside world. If commanded into battle, these trained and disciplined warriors would be an unstoppable force. It was tempting, but in the battlefield of her mind Rhea watched her clanspeople fall as wave after wave of them crashed into the enemy. No, I can’t be responsible for that much death. She shuddered.

If father knew what I was considering he would call me weak and selfish. And maybe I am, she thought as she was handed the torch and the six clansmen made way for her to step forward and light the fire. But he is gone and the clan is mine to protect now.

And I will protect it. She stepped back to watch as wood and cloth alike caught fire and the flames spread, consuming everything they could reach. The fire climbed higher, flames licking at the sky despite the rain’s attempt to dampen them, and for the first time in Rhea’s life she found she no longer cared what her father thought or wanted. Goodbye, Father, may you find peace.

About Uncommon:

Rygal Saline has always stood in his sister’s shadow. As heir to the Clan Chief, Rhea has been trained in the art of leadership and warfare. Rygal is just, well, Rygal.

After several years away at a College in Ismera, Rygal returns to Jaram for his father’s funeral only to find a letter from his sister. She’s gone, she’s sorry, and she expects him to take her place as the next clan chief. Never envisioning a place for himself within the clan, let alone taking on the responsibilities of leadership, Rygal finds himself alone and out of his depth.

Desperate for companionship and for someone he can turn to for help, he writes a letter to every eligible maiden on the continent, hoping to find a wife. The letters travel far and wide. Most are rejected until an accident of fate sends Rygal’s letters into the hands of two women for whom they were never intended, setting in motion a plot that threatens to bring Clan Jaram to the brink of war.

Meet the Authors:

Justine Alley Dowsett (right) is the author of more than ten novels and one of the founders of Mirror World Publishing. Her books, which she often co-writes with her sister, Murandy Damodred (left), range from young adult science fiction to dark fantasy/romance. She earned a BA in Drama from the University of Windsor, honed her skills as an entrepreneur by tackling video game production, and now she dedicates her time to writing, publishing, and occasionally roleplaying with her friends.

With a background in Drama and Communications from the University of Windsor, Murandy Damodred enjoys fantasy fiction with strong romantic subplots. She is an avid role-player and is happiest when living vicariously through her characters. Though she'd rather think of herself as the heroine of her next novel, in the real world she is a nurse and a mom of two living in Windsor, Ontario.

Book Blitz & #Giveaway ~ The Kite by N.R. Walker @NR_Walker ~ Adult, LGBTQ+, Romance, Suspense ~ @XpressoTours ~ #EnemiesToLovers #GayAssassins #UsAgainstThem

The Kite
N.R. Walker
Publication date: June 28th 2022
Genres: Adult, LGBTQ+, Romance, Suspense

About the Book:

Ex-Australian Specialist Response Group, Tim “Harry” Harrigan, has been running covert ops for almost a decade. A lone wolf, he’s single-handedly taken down terrorists and national security threats, or so he thinks. He’s been in the game far too long, and when he sees a familiar threat, he knows his time is up.

Asher Garin is a dangerous man. A man without loyalty, a man without a nationality, without a country, or a home. He’s also a mercenary for hire to the highest bidder. His next job is a face he recognises, and after a tip-off, he learns he too is a marked man.

It’s a different game now, and Harry and Asher have a better chance at surviving if they stick together. But it’s not just the game or the rules that have changed. The stakes have too.

Because on their own, they had nothing to lose. Together, they do.

Read an Excerpt:

Harry crossed the street. No one crossed after him, but whoever was after him was closer now.

He could feel it.

That cold stab of dread, sixth sense, gut feeling. Like icy fingers down his skin.

And if someone was after Harry, it wasn’t good. He was the hunter, never the hunted. If he was the mark . . .

Christ. He was the mark.

Harry ducked past two women, slipping through a narrow utility alley, and he ran. He was being chased now, silent and fast. At the end of the alley, he turned left and went through an open door, up a set of stairs to the roof, his heart hammering.

He ran along the roofline, exposed but faster than on the street. He heard footsteps chasing behind him but didn’t dare turn around, and as the muted whirr of a bullet pinged past his head, he jumped.

He knew the sound of that gun. It was a SIG Pro 9mm with a suppressor.

French special forces, standard issue.

He landed on a first-floor balcony, using his momentum to leap again, this time to the ground. Pain shot through his ankle but he kept moving, down another alley, and through an open door and into a darkened hall.

Hands grabbed him, spun him and pinned his back against the wall as the door closed behind him. In half a disorienting second, Harry pulled his gun to his assailant’s head at the same time he realised he had a pistol pressed against his.

Eyes flashed in the dark, familiar and close. A man’s body pressed him hard to the wall, their chests heaving. A hand covered his mouth.

“Shh.”

Harry didn’t dare breathe, his finger on the trigger, still aimed at the man’s head. The cold press of metal against Harry’s temple told him to wait.

The sound of feet outside came running. The crackle of a radio, a French voice just outside the door. “I’ve lost him.” The footsteps faded, and only after a long moment did the man move his hand from Harry’s mouth.

Harry could see then who it was.

Asher Garin.

Asher fucking Garin.

Adrenaline exploded through Harry’s veins and he started, pushing his pistol harder into Asher’s temple. Asher gnashed his teeth. Anger and defiance flashed in his eyes. “Keep quiet or you’ll kill us both,” Asher hissed, barely a whisper.

His words didn’t make sense.

Asher had saved him?

If there was anyone on the planet sent to kill Harry, it would be Asher. He was the only other man good enough. They were the top two government assassins in the world. Yet Asher had just saved him from the French?

Keep quiet or you’ll kill us both.

Both?

After an eternity, Asher released him, though he kept his pistol aimed at Harry’s head. “We need to get out of here,” he murmured.

Harry’s heart was thundering. His finger itched to pull the trigger. Itched. “The fuck?”

Asher held up his phone to show Harry the screen. “Sent to all agencies.” An assignment, just like any other. Just like any of the thousand he’d received in the last decade. Locations, dates, names, and photographs.

Two photographs.

Harry’s blood ran cold, and his eyes met Asher’s.

Asher nodded, his stare intense. “You and me; double hit. They want us dead. You’re a kite, and your government just cut you loose.”

Harry grappled with his fight or flight instinct, his heart hammering, his ankle throbbing. But given two men had just tried to kill him and the fact Asher hadn’t killed him—and the assignment on his phone screen—Harry could assume what Asher said was true.

Asher must have seen the realisation in Harry’s eyes because he slowly lowered his gun. Just an inch. “We need to trust each other,” he whispered. “The only chance we have is if we stick together. Can you do that?”

Trusting any other person went against every cell in Harry’s body, but what choice did he have? If he said no, one or both of them died right here. If the assignment was sent to all agencies, there wasn’t a country or government anywhere in the world that could protect them.

Harry had no choice.

Answering without a word, he took his finger off the trigger.

About the Book:

N.R. Walker is an Australian author, who loves her genre of gay romance. She loves writing and spends far too much time doing it, but wouldn’t have it any other way.

She is many things: a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer. She has pretty, pretty boys who live in her head, who don’t let her sleep at night unless she gives them life with words.

She likes it when they do dirty, dirty things… but likes it even more when they fall in love.

She used to think having people in her head talking to her was weird, until one day she happened across other writers who told her it was normal.

She’s been writing ever since…

Book Blitz & #Giveaway ~ Lochlan by Pax Sinclair (The Scotsman’s Kilt, #1) ~ Adult, Contemporary Romance @XpressoTours

Lochlan
Pax Sinclair
(The Scotsman’s Kilt, #1)
Publication date: June 6th 2022
Genres: Adult, Contemporary Romance

An enemies-to-lovers, Scottish billionaire romance. A standalone story and book one of the Scotsman’s Kilt series.

About the Book:

Lochlan: It’s true. I’m the heir to the MacTavish Whiskey empire. The cold-hearted SOB who’s been on a drinking, drugging, womanizing binge that was splashed all over the Scottish tabloids for months, until the patriarch of our family exiled me to America to run a winery.

There are only a handful of people left in the Lochlan fan club who think I deserve redemption. Other than I’m worth a fortune, why would anyone want to save a soulless bastard like me when all I want is revenge?

Kenzie: It’s complicated. I’ve been given a challenge to seduce Lochlan MacTavish as part of an initiation into a club. The only way to reach him is through his Silicon Valley winery.

All I need is proof that we slept together and I’m in, but it’s not easy. First, I have to get past my aversion to overprivileged, billionaire Scottish men, and this one is an ass on his best days.

When I botch getting the proof I need, we make a bargain. I’ll be his fake girlfriend to convince his grandfather he’s now a responsible member of society, and I get my proof of a seduction. The problem is, neither of us banked on this growing, off-the-charts attraction between us.

This is another hot, sexy, twisty romance from PaxWorld. Did I mention there are men in kilts?

Read an Excerpt:

Hunk alert!” screams a female, accompanied by the clanging of a large, obnoxious cowbell. She’s swaying dangerously on a stool next to the bar, holding the bell high above her head in one hand while egging her companions on with the other. She rings it again, the sound piercing the air like a scream. I can’t figure out where the damn bell came from, but the sound is splitting my skull.

I’m in the doorway watching about thirty fit young women, some huddled in clusters, while others are standing on black leather couches and chairs, giving a cheering response to the bell ringer.

Their raucous behavior is disturbing in this newly designed space of tarnished metal and aged wood. We use this place for private parties because it’s well away from the main MacTavish Cellars tasting room, which is packed to the rafters at the moment. I came back here to check on this group on my way to look over a shipment we received this morning in the barrel room. I realized something was wrong when I heard muffled shouting coming from the room.

The cowbell clangs again and I resist the urge to rush in and yank that thing away from her before I sustain permanent damage. The cowbell-wielding blonde sings out, “What do we want, sisters?” while motioning to the crowd to respond to her maniacal question. The women chant, “Hunk, hunk, hunk,” demanding a mob’s satisfaction.

Shaun, my server, is wild-eyed and backed against the front of the bar, two stools away from the blonde, fearing for the safety of his manhood. I will kill him for letting this hen party get out of hand. I do a quick search of these brash women. Where the hell is Preston? They both should be working this party, and Preston should be showing Shaun the ropes. Why did he leave a newbie alone with a room full of women?

I slip behind the bar, unseen at the moment by the blonde, to restore order to this chaos. The chant is getting louder. Shaun’s pleading gaze swings to me. I grab a bottle and glasses and lean toward him. “Find Preston and tell him to get his arse back in here. Get Geordie and Calum in here as well,” I say, trying to prevent my voice from carrying. He bobs his head before bolting away from the bar and through the crowd of women, their chants following him as he disappears through the doors.

I’m formulating how to deal with these female hooligans when I catch the attention of the bonny blonde with the cowbell. She’s staring down at me with a predatory grin, the tip of her tongue moving over plump red lips. The lass keeps her gaze on me while she stoops to place the bell on the bar, then casually jumps off the stool. She raises a hand toward the women, still staring at me, and the chanting fades to a dull murmur. Her obedient cult followers slowly remove themselves from the furniture. They’re talking among themselves but are keeping an eye on their leader. Blondie tosses her head back, sizing me up.

“You look like the real deal.” Her voice is sexy smoke and honey, unexpected for someone who looks like a sun-kissed beach girl. She drags her gaze down the length of my body. I’m not happy being judged as a piece of meat, but working here, you accept the attention. When she finishes her long scrutiny, her attention settles on my face. That’s right, look me in the eyes, I telegraph back to her, I’m not intimidated by your antics.

Her smirk says she’s enjoying her brash behavior. “A big strapping hottie like you and in a kilt to boot, but then again, all the men here are equally as hot and wearing kilts.”
