Date Published: 12-25-2024

About the Book:

When a corpse with webbed feet and other aquatic adaptations washes ashore during a hurricane, the county medical examiner calls in marine biologist Will Myers for assistance. The deceased’s mysterious sister, Andreia, claims the body and asks Will to help figure out how her brother died. Will and Andreia bond over shared tragedies and a yearning to heal a dying ocean as they seek to learn how her brother spent his final days.

Andreia brings Will to her undersea home, part of a hidden civilization inhabited by smugglers, hackers, treasure hunters, and traders—all members of a different species, driven to the edge of extinction by human diseases and climate change. As feelings between the two grow, the investigation into her brother’s death leads to a sinister plot by a fanatical cabal. Together, Will and Andreia must find a way to save both humanity and the ocean without imperiling the existence of her species.

 About the Book:

Fifty years after a coup replaced President Franklin D. Roosevelt with a fascist dictatorship, America is a land of hopelessness. Ben Adamson, a 19-year-old farm boy in southern Illinois, wants only to spend his time fishing and hunting. But when his dead brother demands justice for his suspicious fate in a colonial war, Ben and Rachel, his brother’s fiancée, are drawn into an underground revolutionary movement.

After staging a rally against the war, Ben and Rachel are arrested by the Internal Security Service, who have perfected the science of breaking people. Ben is given a choice: betray the rebels, including his best friend from childhood, or Rachel will be lobotomized.

Although traumatized and addicted to a powerful drug, Ben refuses to doom anyone he cares about. Can he find a third option? Can he free Rachel and strike back at the dictatorship, while dodging the suspicions of police and rebels alike?

 Read an Excerpt:

Paul fixed eyes on me. “You’ve got Lindbergh and Clark over the fireplace.”

“Not my say.” Pop and Grandpa worshiped President Lindbergh, National Leader for four decades until cancer took him. They even worshiped his cleft-chinned, slogan-spouting replacement, Andrew Clark.

“And if it was your say?” Paul asked.

I couldn’t help but feel bitter. “Why pay tribute to men who let the banks and grain buyers grind us down? And send people off to die when they’re needed here?”

Paul scooted the rocking chair close and spoke quietly. “There’s more of us than them. We could stand up and say no.”

Was he serious? “That what they do in Chicago?” I asked.

“Sometimes.”

“And I bet they get their heads kicked in.”

His eyes narrowed. “Nothing worthwhile’s easy.”

“Nothing’s easy, period,” Sarah added.

Book Spotlight, Author #Interview, & #Giveaway ~ The Wrath of Leviathan (The BetterWorld Trilogy Book 2) by T.C. Weber ~ #SciFi #Cyberpunk #Thriller ~ @savethereefs @RABTBookTours

~ Please welcome T.C. Weber to the blog today ~

Interview with T.C. Weber:

How long have you been writing?
I’ve pursued writing since childhood, and learned filmmaking and screenwriting in college, along with a little bit of physics. I transformed those interests into novel writing while trapped at home during the "Snowmageddon" of 2010. I’ve been writing nearly every day since then.

What are your hobbies?
My wife and I like to travel, although we can’t do it as often as we used to. I like long hikes in nature, and used to (before moving to Maryland) fish and dive a lot.

Do you have another job other than writing?
Yes, I work as a policy analyst for Defenders of Wildlife. Before that, I was the conservation science manager at the Conservation Fund.

Some writers have something playing in the background. Do you, and what?
I create playlists for all my characters, and also playlists for particular kinds of scenes (e.g., combat or romance). Listening to a character’s favorite songs (or a close facsimile) is one of the best ways I’ve found to connect with them. For example, Gabriel likes a Brazilian band called Chico Science, and Waylee prefers industrial/punk/thrash music like Ministry, Orange 9mm, and Rage Against the Machine.

What's the inspiration behind your books?
In Sleep State Interrupt and Wrath of Leviathan, a giant media corporation has taken over the Internet, created an addictive virtual reality called BetterWorld, and controls nearly all information. Politicians do their bidding and a brainwashed humanity serves a privileged few. I've always been worried about the concentration of media and the decline of journalism, and the threats those trends pose to independent, critical thought and democracy. I am a huge cyberpunk fan, so I wove these concerns into a techno-thriller plot, developed outcast characters who feel compelled to take action, and added details of a near-future world.

What authors are your inspiration?
All books I’ve read, whether good or bad, have inspired me to write. For the BetterWorld trilogy, of which Wrath of Leviathan is the middle book, I wanted to write in the cyberpunk genre. William Gibson and Neal Stephenson were my role models there (plus the myriad of other cyberpunk books, movies, games, and anime series).

Do you have any pets?
My wife and I have two miniature schnauzers, Zeke and Paisley, that we initially fostered and then adopted.

BetterWorld, Book 2
Science Fiction (Cyberpunk) / Thriller

About the Book:

In Wrath of Leviathan, the second book of the BetterWorld trilogy, Waylee faces life in prison for daring to expose MediaCorp's schemes to control the world. Exiled in São Paulo, her sister Kiyoko and their hacker friends continue the fight, seeking to end the conglomerate's stranglehold on virtual reality, information, and politics. But MediaCorp and their government allies may quash the rebellion before it takes off. And unknown to Kiyoko and her friends, a team of ruthless mercenaries is after them and is closing in fast.
