~ Please welcome T.C. Weber to the blog today ~

Interview with T.C. Weber:

How long have you been writing?
I’ve pursued writing since childhood, and learned filmmaking and screenwriting in college, along with a little bit of physics. I transformed those interests into novel writing while trapped at home during the "Snowmageddon" of 2010. I’ve been writing nearly every day since then.

What are your hobbies?
My wife and I like to travel, although we can’t do it as often as we used to. I like long hikes in nature, and used to (before moving to Maryland) fish and dive a lot.

Do you have another job other than writing?
Yes, I work as a policy analyst for Defenders of Wildlife. Before that, I was the conservation science manager at the Conservation Fund.

Some writers have something playing in the background. Do you, and what?
I create playlists for all my characters, and also playlists for particular kinds of scenes (e.g., combat or romance). Listening to a character’s favorite songs (or a close facsimile) is one of the best ways I’ve found to connect with them. For example, Gabriel likes a Brazilian band called Chico Science, and Waylee prefers industrial/punk/thrash music like Ministry, Orange 9mm, and Rage Against the Machine.

What's the inspiration behind your books?
In Sleep State Interrupt and Wrath of Leviathan, a giant media corporation has taken over the Internet, created an addictive virtual reality called BetterWorld, and controls nearly all information. Politicians do their bidding and a brainwashed humanity serves a privileged few. I've always been worried about the concentration of media and the decline of journalism, and the threats those trends pose to independent, critical thought and democracy. I am a huge cyberpunk fan, so I wove these concerns into a techno-thriller plot, developed outcast characters who feel compelled to take action, and added details of a near-future world.

What authors are your inspiration?
All books I’ve read, whether good or bad, have inspired me to write. For the BetterWorld trilogy, of which Wrath of Leviathan is the middle book, I wanted to write in the cyberpunk genre. William Gibson and Neal Stephenson were my role models there (plus the myriad of other cyberpunk books, movies, games, and anime series).

Do you have any pets?
My wife and I have two miniature schnauzers, Zeke and Paisley, that we initially fostered and then adopted.
