#Review ~ Walk of Shame by Avery Flynn (The Downside of Dating, Book 2) ~ @AveryFlynn @entangledpub @valentine_pr_ #SportsRomance #Hockey

Walk of Shame by Avery Flynn is now live!

One night. No strings. And a really good puck.

Five years ago, Astrid O’Malley experienced the ultimate in public humiliation. Being dumped at the altar by her childhood sweetheart was horrifying enough. That fact that he was a professional hockey goalie and her dad was his coach? It was all anyone in sports could talk about.

Eff hockey. Eff goalies.

These days, Astrid lives a life (mostly) free of hockey and free to pursue whoever she wants with exactly zero shame in her game. Like tonight’s hook-up. This guy’s nailed the lumberjack aesthetic perfectly. Especially when he has the stamina and creativity to back it up.

Because the rule is: it’s one night only. Which is gonna be a problem because she’s just discovered he lives in the apartment upstairs.

And he’s joined her dad’s team. As the goalie coach. To train her ex.

Now Astrid is in some kind of hockey hell–filled with her ex, her family, and the best sex of her life. And somehow she’s been roped back onto the team.

Puck my life.

My Review:

Walk of Shame is the second book in The Downside of Dating series.

Walk of Shame is a fun romantic comedy. I fell in love with both Astrid and Cal. They are fantastic characters individually but put them together and they are extraordinary. The chemistry and steam is off the charts. The snark, competitiveness, and genuine affection between the two mains was enjoyable to read. I loved watching Astrid and Cal's love story unfold.

Walk of Shame is a cute romance between two unsuspecting characters. One was burned by a hockey player and hardened her heart. The other was consumed by hockey. They thought their lives were great until he walked into her bar, then they realized was great really meant.

The book is perfectly paced, well-written, and the setting and world-building expertly crafted. I devoured Walk of Shame because once I started reading the book, I was hooked and couldn't put it down.

Avery Flynn is a one-click author for me. Every book is phenomenal. The themes, settings, and multitude of characters are unique, likable, and imperfectly perfect.

I was provided a copy of this book.

#Review ~ The Duke’s Secret Cinderella by Eva Devon ~ @EntangledPub @turnthepagebts #HistoricalRomance #NeverAWallflower #turnthepagetours #TTPT #TDSC #thedukessecretcinderella

TITLE: The Duke’s Secret Cinderella

AUTHOR: Eva Devon

PUBLISHER: Entangled – Amara

RELEASE DATE: February 21, 2023

GENRES: Adult Romance, Retelling

BUY LINK: Amazon https://amzn.to/3ZmSh0Z

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Charlotte Browne could just kick herself. What on earth possessed her to tell the Duke of Rockford that she is a lady? But something about the duke's handsomeness and kind intelligence makes Charlotte blurt out the teeniest, tiniest falsehood. Now it's too late to admit she's just plain Charlotte of no particular importance—with cinder-stained hands, a wretched stepfather, and no prospects for marriage...

Rafe Dorchester, Duke of Rockford, has done what every self-respecting duke must do—avoid marriage at all costs. But the only thing stronger than the duke is his mother. When she lays down the highest ultimatum, he'll need to find a duchess. Immediately. Only, when he calls on a potential bride, he instead finds the pert, fresh-faced Lady Charlotte. Rafe was warned to never mix the business of marriage with pleasure, but when it comes to her...oh, business would be a splendid pleasure.

One passionate, illicit kiss sends Charlotte fleeing, leaving only a delicate blue ribbon behind. For Rafe can never discover her secret, or it will ruin her beloved sister's chance at marriage. But the duke knows that when you've found the one person that ignites you, body and soul, nothing can keep you away.

MY REVIEW:

The Duke's Secret Cinderella was a fascinating fairytale retelling. The story has a twist in that their isn't a wicked stepmother. Charlotte has a wicket stepfather. He's actually more than just wicked. He's cruel, heartless, and power- and money-hungry. As such, he's pulled Charlotte out of polite society and banished her to the servant's quarters, all while his children maintain their stations within the ton.

When Charlotte is downtown trying to free one of the servant's from horrific conditions in the debtors' prison, she is accosted by a street person. A handsome gentleman intervenes and even assists Charlotte in securing the release of the servant. Upon the rescue, Charlotte learns she's been aided by none other than the Duke of Rockford. What ensues is a tale of deceit, maltreatment, and unspeakable behavior. This is also a tale, however, of love, chemistry, and revelations.

The path Charlotte and Rafe travel is a bumpy one. Charlotte tells Rafe a small white lie which, throughout the book, escalates. The lie, and its snowball effect, opens the door for Charlotte's stepfather to twist and misconstrue her tales into something more beneficial to him rather than her or others involved. The ending, while epic, is also sad and maddening. Justice is served but, as in real life, it doesn't take away the pain and loss.

The Duke's Secret Cinderella was fun, eye-opening, and a fantastic retelling. I enjoyed the characters, even the bad ones, because they had a part to play in making this story so good. The twists, turns, and ending were surprising and I didn't see them coming. The author wrote a wonderful historical romance as the Cinderella fairytale re-imagined. I really enjoyed this book.

I was provided a paperback of this book to read.

Happy Release Day ~ Mansplainer (Last Man Standing #3) by Avery Flynn @AveryFlynn @GreysPromo #ContemporaryRomance #RomCom @EntangledPub

Mansplainer by Avery Flynn is now live!

As the only Beckett cousin who is still unattached, I'm a shoo-in to win the bet with my cousins to be the last man blissfully not in love by Christmas. Of course, I know they're still going to make me follow the rules of our bet and go on six dates with the same woman—but I've figured out a way out of that too. I'm getting married. Is it love? Not even close. Chelle Finch needs a temporary husband and I need to win this bet. We agree to put a ring on it knowing that in six months this marriage of convenience will end in divorce. Except, somehow dating my wife has me realizing that I don't ever want to take this ring off if it means losing her.

What does the guy who can talk his way out of anything have to do to sweet talk his temporary wife into forever?

My Review:

Mansplainer is the highly anticipated third book in Avery Flynn's Last Mas Standing series. Nash Beckett has found a way to bend the Last Man Standing contest rules. He's going to marry for convenience and win this bet. Chelle Finch is about to lose everything important to her over old-fashioned patriarchal misogyny. That is, unless she finds a husband by Christmas. See? This is a win-win for everyone.

They only have to keep it together long enough for a) Nash to win the contest, and b) Chelle to keep living her life the way she wants to without certain expectations beings held over her head. What happens when this marriage of convenience takes a turn toward forever?!

Mansplainer was an enjoyable and fitting end to the Last Man Standing series. A series in which I absolutely love. Nash and Chelle are fun characters and enjoyed getting to know them. Chelle's had a rough go of things but she is a strong woman, willing to do what she must in order to save her livelihood. Nash is a fixer, which is why he seems like a mansplainer. He doesn't mean to offend; he just wants to help.

I was provided a copy of this book to read - and I totally recommend the complete series in order.

Gideon ran past close enough that she could hear him take a breath while she held her own. Past. He ran past.

The crashing footfalls silenced, and she sucked in a soft gasp. Gideon Sinclair had stopped. The small crunch of a footstep came from a few yards beyond her. She’d scoot around the tree to the opposite side, but she dared not move. Instead, she concentrated on becoming a part of the trunk. If only she could grow bark and moss along her back.

“I know ye are here somewhere,” Gideon said. “Your footsteps pounding through the brush went silent.”

Damn. In a full-out sprint, she couldn’t keep quiet any more than he could. Cait looked at the limb above her. Could she reach it with her rope? Climb up there before Gideon descended upon her like a bloodthirsty wolf?

No. Perfect stillness and a miracle were the only ways to outsmart the infamous Sinclair Horseman. When stars started to spark before her eyes in the darkness, Cait parted her lips and drew in a silent stream of air and released it the same way.

She listened to his footsteps as he walked along the trail on the other side of the tree. “Your kiss was cold and hard, lass. And it didn’t distract me enough for ye to escape.”

You are a cold fish of a woman. Benjamin’s words sneered in her memory.

“If ye come out, ye can give it another try,” Gideon said, his voice just on the other side of the thick tree. When she didn’t answer, not even with the crack of a twig, he went on. “What were ye doing up in my room? Did I interrupt a robbery? If you had braved my bedroom for a tryst, ye wouldn’t have jumped out the window.”

He walked a little farther up the trail. Could he make out her tracks in the dim light of the moon? Damn snow made them stand out. It seemed God wasn’t interested in trying to save her from this mess. It was all up to her.

Cait let her breath out slowly, listening to his footfalls crunch in the mix of snow and dead leaves. She nearly jumped when she felt a tug on the coil of rope that she held. Damn. The end had uncoiled several lengths on her run and lay on top of the leaves before the tree.

Cait tried to inhale, but her breath kept stuttering in her chest as Gideon slowly coiled the loose rope, which had become a trail directly to her. He rounded the side of the tree and stopped. The darkness cloaked him in shadow, making his solid form look even larger. Gideon Sinclair stared directly at her.

The Un-Arranged Marriage by Laura Brown @AuthorLBrown #ContemporaryRomance #Romance #Review

The Un-Arranged Marriage by Laura Brown is live!

About the Book:

Their mothers are the worst matchmakers…

Mark Goldman has never gotten along with Shaina Fogel. Ever. Even when they were in diapers, their bestie mothers wanted them to grow up and get married. Not happening. Mark prefers his quiet, reserved life. But a family wedding is about to change everything Mark thought he knew about his archnemesis.

A week of wedding events with Mark Goldman? Shaina would rather have a week of root canals. Maybe the guy is hot, but for their entire lives, he's never once acknowledged the fact that she's hard of hearing. So it comes as a massive surprise when she discovers that Mr. High-and-Mighty and Annoyingly Sexy simply didn't know. And now she needs his help.

When it's revealed that the weeklong wedding events are actually a weeklong competition—for a dream vacation—Mark and Shaina do the unthinkable: work together. And the second the animosity begins to fade, something even more electric takes its place. Only now it's not just an attraction between enemies. And nothing could be worse than the fact that their mothers might have had it right…

My Review:

The Un-Arranged Marriage is a cute and fun contemporary romance. Shaina Fogel and Mark Goldman were a match made in heaven from the time they were infants - according to their mothers, anyway. Growing up they couldn't stand each other and never spent any time together, if they could help it anyway. When Mark's sister Leah gets married, Shaina and Mark's relationship changes.

The week-long wedding festivities don't just include wedding prep, they include a competition. One that Shaina desperately wants to win. One that includes asking Mark for help. One that has mothers fluttering and family members talking.

Except, it's just a competition, no strings, no attraction, no nothing. Both competitive in nature, this union is just a means to a winning end.

Wrong.

Shaina is a strong, independent woman with a lifelong hearing disability. There are times she gets frustrated, not just with Mark, because no one takes her hearing into consideration or they emphasis it too much (I'm looking at you, Noah!) and treat her as an invalid. Weak and sickly she definitely is not. Mark is a sweet and caring hero in our story. He truly didn't realize Shaina was hard of hearing (I'm still not sure how you wouldn't know that, though, if you were around this person all the time.) Once he figured it out, he genuinely tried to change his speech patterns, volume, and body language.

The plot engaged me and kept me interested in Shaina and Mark as separate people and as a couple. Every family has meddlers and gossips so the secondary characters were written well and I found them believable. Once Shaina and Mark got over themselves and paid attention to each other - like, really paid attention - their dynamics and chemistry were off the charges. The book is fast-paced, entertaining, and brought attention to disabilities and sexualities. I enjoyed this enemies-to friends-to lovers contemporary romance.

Meet Laura Brown:

After spending her childhood coming up with new episodes to her favorite sitcoms instead of sleeping, Laura Brown decided to try her hand at writing and never looked back. A hopeless romantic, she married her high school sweetheart, though they didn’t even go to the same high school! They live in Massachusetts with two cats with cerebellar hypoplasia, and an energetic kid who keeps them on their toes. Laura’s been hard of hearing her entire life but didn’t start learning ASL until college, when her disability morphed from an inconvenience to a positive part of her identity. It’s important to her to create strong, competent characters with hearing loss, as she didn’t have that growing up. At home the closed captioning is always on, lights flash with the doorbell, and hearing aids are sometimes optional.

Release Blitz & #Review ~ Kissing Games (Kissing Creek, Book 2) by Stefanie London @GreysPromo @EntangledPub

Kissing Games by Stefanie London is now live!

The effervescent, quirky romantic comedy from USA Today bestselling author Stefanie London...

About the Book:

Injured pro baseball player Ryan Bower has plenty of reasons for not sleeping. But thanks to a steamy romance novel that's ignited the imaginations–and libidos—of pretty much everyone in Kissing Creek, Ryan's kept awake by the sound of his parents. Having sex. Unforgivably gross. And Ryan is almost certain that the town's adorably quirky and troublemaking librarian is responsible.

Sloane Rickman adores everything about her little town—with the exception of its very tall and infuriatingly sexy Golden Boy. Ryan Bower may be a ball-playing hottie, but where exactly does he get off telling her what books to recommend to her oddball little book club? Good thing he's only in town for the fall.

Now Sloane and Ryan are stuck planning the main float for the town's parade. But somewhere between arguments over paint colors and papier mâché flowers, their fights keep turning into red-hot kisses. And between Ryan's demanding ball career and Sloane's life in Kissing Creek, they face the biggest game of their lives...if they're ready to play for keeps.

My Review and Rating:

Kissing Games (Kissing Creek Book 2)Kissing Games by Stefanie London
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sloane Rickman is a relatively new transplant to Kissing Creek. Over the past few years, she’s made the small town her very own. She’s engaged in her job as librarian at the local library, even building several different book clubs. When the town’s golden boy returns to Kissing Creek to heal after a career-altering injury and questions her judgment, it’s up to Sloane to get him onboard with the latest book club selection.

Ryan Bower is only tucking his tail and returning to Kissing Creek to heal and hide out for a little while. He’s staying with his parent while recovering but after suffering through some nights that children, no matter what age, should never have to endure, he’s questioning his relaxation plans. It’s time to get to the bottom of why the entire town is amped up. A visit to the library is in order.

Kissing Games is a fun romance, uniting a couple who seem unlikely but are made for each other more than they know. Sloane and Ryan are adorably cute. I love their not quite friends/not quite enemies-to-lovers romance. There is a lot of humor written into this book. I loved everything about the book – the characters, the setting, the theme, pg. 21, and most of all, the path the author took our main characters on to get to their happily-ever-after.

I couldn't put this book down!

Release Blitz & #Review ~ The Sweetheart Deal (Blossom Glen #1) by Miranda Liasson @mirandaliasson @EntangledPub

The Sweetheart Deal by Miranda Liasson is live!

From the bestselling author of the Angel Falls series, two enemies say "I do" in the first irresistible book about Blossom Glen.

Pastry chef Tessa Montgomery knows what everyone in the teeny town of Blossom Glen says about her. Spinster. Ice Queen. Such a shame. It's enough to make a woman bake her troubles away, dreaming of Parisian delicacies while she makes bread at her mother's struggling boulangerie. That is until Tessa's mortal enemy—deliciously handsome (if arrogant) chef Leo Castorini, who owns the restaurant next door—proposes a business plan...to get married.

Leo knows that the Castorinis and the Montgomerys hate each other, but a marriage might just force these stubborn families to work together and blend their businesses for success. The deal is simple: Tessa and Leo marry, live together for six months, and then go their separate ways. Easy peasy.

It's a sweetheart deal where everyone gets what they want—until feelings between the faux newlyweds start seriously complicating the mix. Have they discovered the perfect recipe for success...or is disaster on the way?

My Review and Rating:

The Sweetheart DealThe Sweetheart Deal by Miranda Liasson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tessa Montgomery’s fiancé’ left her for someone else a year ago. She’s been the talk of the town ever since, and not in a good way. Helping her mother and grandmother keep their generational boulangerie afloat, Tessa has big dreams of being a pastry chef. Her mother is stubborn and set in her ways, not allowing Tessa any creative freedom. A boulangerie is it and a boulangerie it will stay.

When she’s confronted by newly returned nemesis, Leo Castorini, and he makes an offer she can’t refuse, they travel down a path fit for disaster. Leo and Tessa are the children of a long-standing feud between generations of their family members. On opposing sides, Tessa’s family’s shop and Leo’s family restaurant are on the brink of disaster. Leo’s idea may just be what brings the families together and saves both businesses from financial ruin.

Desperation causes people to act and do things they would never have dreamed of in regular circumstances. Leo’s idea for he and Tessa to get married to get both families to work together may be exactly what is needed. When feelings start to get involved though, that could spell tragedy and make things worse if things don’t work.

The Sweetheart Deal is a cute romance with some anxiety-inducing moments. The author writes with realism and true emotion. I loved Tessa and Leo’s characters. They have a history but in the name of preservation they join forces. Leo and Tessa managed to smooth their past and move forward. I love the things Leo does for Tessa. I found myself rooting for Tessa and Leo even if their circumstances weren’t an ideal reason for marriage. I enjoyed the author’s writing style. The entire book flowed well, and the dialogue was conversational.
