About the Book:
When Jack Warr was first introduced in the 2020 international bestseller, Buried, readers immediately fell in love with the charming-yet-troubled detective. An intrepid investigator haunted by a complicated family history, his gut instincts and genius for reading people solidified him as one of modern crime fiction’s most beguiling characters, while his obsession with justice and penchant for risk taking made him one of the genre’s most unpredictable.
In the wake of two international bestselling Jack Warr books, Lynda La Plante is now making her much anticipated return to the series with VANISHED, scheduled for North American publication on July 26, 2022. Another up-all-night thriller, this latest installment begins when Jack Warr is drawn into the world of eccentric widower, Avril Jenkins, after she claims she is being stalked. While most assume the complaints are merely paranoia—the result of too much time spent alone—Warr suspects something else is at play. Only days later, the widow is discovered brutally murdered and Jack Warr’s intuitions are, once again, proven all too correct.
Before long, the investigation uncovers an international drugs operation on the widow's property, further complicating an already thorny case. As the hunt for the prime suspect hits dead end after dead end, it seems the killer has vanished without a trace. To find answers, Jack must decide how far is he willing to go—and what he is willing to risk—in his search for justice. Because if he crosses the line of the law, one wrong move could cost him everything.
A brilliant and gripping procedural overflowing with La Plante’s trademark wit, VANISHED is an unforgettable tour de force by one of the most knowledgeable writers in the genre.
