Evangeline Delafose is finding Graisseville, Louisiana just as she remembered—boring and uneventful. Until her brother Nate asks her to help solve a murder. Follow Ev as she navigates clues, dead bodies, and quirky small-town residents to solve a mystery. And of course, show her little brother that she's still got it. If you like cozy mysteries with twists and turns, deep South settings, and a hint of romance, you’ll love this series! Let’s not forget quirky yet charming characters who remind you of family—sometimes you want to hug them, and sometimes you want to disown them. Enjoy small town Graisseville with Ev as she solves crime with help from her family and friends. This is a clean faith based read with no profanity, sex, or graphic violence. This book is the first of the Small-Town Girl Mystery Series.

My Review:

Muffalettas and Murder is the first book in the Small Town Girl Mysteries. Evangeline Delafose is a widow who moves back home to Graisseville, Louisiana. She writes a very popular police procedural series, however, after her police detective husband was killed, the series stalls. Ev is not home very long when a local is found dead in his home. Her brother Nate brings her onboard to help figure out who-dun-it, and Ev works hard to to solve the crime. Maybe the engagement in this murder mystery will incite her to write again.

I had a hard time staying engaged with this cozy mystery, which is why it has taken me so long to get it read. There is a lot of fluff and external side-steps that I felt detracted from the story. I realize the information was the author's method of introducing Ev, Shorty, Nate, and the rest of the case. Readers need backstory, information about the main characters, and the characters involved with the victim, and this story provides that information. I just thought there was too much. As I sifted through the information though, I found the story to be fun and interesting.

The book has a lot of  twists and turns, taking the reader on a wild ride through the small, southern town of Graisseville. Several suspects are developed and investigated. Clues are revealed that implicate and/or exonerate the suspects. The true suspect was surprising but looking back, made complete sense. The story wrapped up nicely. It will be interesting to see where the author take Ev next.

I bought my copy of this book from Amazon.
