A Very Merry Murder
Mistletoe, mince pies… and murder
About the Book:
When Jude Gray inherited Malvern Farm, she never thought she’d become so used to farm life, let alone be good at it! But now a beloved national TV show is coming to film their Christmas special on her land, celebrating the charm of rural living and all Jude’s achieved so far.
At
least, that’s the plan… until one of the crew is found dead in suspicious
circumstances.
At
first, it looks like a tragic accident, but when alibis start to crack, it
seems like anything but. With a growing list of suspects and enough
behind-the-scenes drama to rival anything the cameras are capturing, Jude must
dig deep to uncover the truth.
Because
someone on her farm is hiding a deadly secret – and this year, the season of
goodwill may come with a killer twist…
My Review:
I absolutely loved A Very Merry Murder. Jude Gray is a wonderfully written character. She's complex with a tragic backstory which has her present-day romantic life in a tailspin. She's a great amateur sleuth. I loved watching her mind work through the mysterious death of a crewmember currently on her property filming a Christmas special.
The author did a great job setting up the mystery. There are so many potential suspects with ironclad means, motive, and opportunity. The author crafted a mystery with depth, red herrings, and misdirects that will keep the reader guessing.
The combination of majestic scenery, a working farm, countryside small town living, and vivid and descriptive imagery sets this book apart from others in its genre. I found everything about the book to be refreshing and original. I enjoyed the author's writing style, both smooth and conversational. I was completely invested in Jude, the Christmas special, and the mystery.
I haven't read the rest in the series (because I didn't realize it was part of a series) but I will be remedying that as soon as possible.
I was provided with a copy of this book. This does not
affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The opinions I have
expressed are my own.
