Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn
Is this just a summer romance or could it be more?
About the Book:
Nicola grew up at Pennycress Inn, in the beautiful Cotswold village of Meadowfield, and now she’s come full circle by landing a job there. After a difficult few months, she’s happy to be back in the place she loves and calls home.
The whole village is looking forward to the annual summer carnival, and Nicola is charged with asking the local farmers to lend their tractors and trailers for the occasion. It’s an easy task – until she meets the new owner of Little Mead Farm, who stubbornly refuses to help.
On sabbatical from his City job for the summer, Charlie wants to do up his late uncle’s farm and put it on the market as soon as possible. The place might have been in his family for generations but country life is simply not for him. He has no time for whatever the villagers are up to.
When Nicola and Charlie meet, sparks fly – and unexpected feelings grow. Soon there’s more at stake in Meadowfield than the success of the carnival. But whatever happens between them, this is just a summer romance… isn’t it?
My Review:
Falling in Love at Pennycress Inn is the charming second book in the Pennycress Inn series. Full disclosure: I have not read the first book yet. I have it in my library to read and will definitely get it read. I wasn't lost throughout the book but I know I'm missing some key details about the Inn and some of whom I assume are recurring characters.
Nicola Fields' first encounter with Charlie Williams leaves a lot to be desired. He's not who she was expecting when approaching the Williams farm. Plus, he was short with her, rude, and not all interested in continuing the legacy of Little Mead Farm. The village needs him to participate in the local festival but he is resistant. One of the many things I love about Nicola is her persistence.
As Nicola and Charlie continue to cross paths, and eventually spend time together during the carnival prep, their chemistry becomes more evident. I loved watching the romance slowly unfold. Their characters were wonderfully developed, three-dimensional, and full of personality.
This is such an amazing book! I loved the story, characters, romance, and setting. I was hooked from the very page and kept engaged throughout. The book is filled with excellent imagery and character development. The author's writing is fluid, the pacing is perfect, and the story so easy to devour that I reached the end much too quickly. I was captivated by Nicola and Charlie's story.
I was provided with a copy of this book. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
