About the Book:
Reagan has her doubts, however, and begins to look into the strange phenomenon. But then something even stranger happens: a body winds up in the sisters’ pink Caddy. The evidence begins to pile up and the suspicious case of Willie Fishbine, who swindled the sisters out of a fortune and coincidentally died prior to the Pines case, is reopened.
Not wanting Willie to be buried until they can find the killer responsible for the murders, Reagan must catch the culprit in time to walk down the aisle.
Lethal in Old Lace is the highly anticipated fifth book in the Consignment Shop Mysteries, one of the most comedy-filled cozy series' that I've had the pleasure of reading. I must say I was not disappointed.
The latest caper surrounds the Sleepy Pines Retirement Center. People in the retirement center are dropping like flies from something other than natural causes. When dead bodies, well, the same dead body actually, keeps showing up in random places around town, Reagan, Aunt Kiki, and the rest of the characters make it their mission to figure out what is going on. Things intensify when the local police are positive that Reagan's neighbor ladies are guilty. Now Reagan and Aunt Kiki must kick their sleuthing up a notch if they want to keep sisters, Annie and Elsie, out of jail. Grab a copy of the book and read as the group infiltrates the retirement center, steals a casket, and just creates general mayhem as Reagan and Aunt Kiki are wont to do. Plus, Reagan has a wedding to plan amid all of the chaos. Yay for Reagan and Boone!
The Consignment Shop Mysteries by Duffy Brown are spectacular and always keep me anticipating the next book. Lethal in Old Lace does not disappoint. The story lines are always well thought out and perfectly executed. There is humor tossed in for good measure - I love Reagan's one liners and Aunt Kiki's melodramatic episodes. She always has Reagan's back, however, and they make a great duo. Reagan is snarky, funny, and very enjoyable. I've enjoyed watching how the relationship between Reagan and Walker has evolved into love.
Duffy is an excellent writer and I've loved everything she's written. Her cozy mystery novels are completely engaging from the first page. The character development and world building was fabulously executed and the author continues to build on that through the entire series. The author's descriptions make it feel like the reader is right there in Savannah with the characters.
Just a reminder, all of the Consignment Shop Mystery books play off the next book. Please read them in order otherwise you may find yourself really confused.
I'm so happy to see Reagan, Boone, BW, and Aunt Kiki are back! As of my favorite cozy mystery series', I really missed all of the great characters that the author created for us cozy readers. I'm just going to put this out there - I cried when I thought this series was done. Duffy Brown writes amazingly wonderful cozies and the thought that both the Consignment Shop Mysteries (Crooked Lane Books) and the Cycle Path Mysteries (unsure of the new publisher) were going to be unceremoniously dumped upset me deeply.
