Short Story Review ~ The Gate Guardian's Daughter (The Gate Trilogy, Book 0.5) by K.T. Munson @Ktmunson

About the Story:

The interplanetary gates require guardians and the reformed demon Malthael is one of them.

His adoptive daughter, Elisabeth, is special, but her dangerous ability hasn’t awoken yet. Malthael knows it will one day and from then on her life will forever be altered. Malthael isolates her from outside world as much to protect everyone else as to safeguard her. It is all he can do to delay the inevitable.

Now that Elisabeth is ten, how long can Malthael keep her confined?

The Gate Guardian's Daughter is a short prequel to The Gate Trilogy. Elisabeth is the adopted daughter of Malthael, a reformed demon. She will, one day, have her dangerous ability manifest. In order to keep everyone outside of their home safe, Malthael keeps Elisabeth behind closed doors. When she happens to be befriended by a boy in the neighborhood, Elisabeth jumps at the chance. Unfortunately, keeping Elisabeth secluded was just as much for her protection as anyone else's.

The author gives the readers Elisabeth's background in a pretty neck-breaking way. The short story was very fast-paced and there wasn't really any time to build up any suspense before the ending happened. Despite that, the book did pique my interest in the series and I'll be adding it to my TBR list.
