THE OUTSIDE MAN
by Don Bentley
Now Don Bentley follows this up with the already highly anticipated, high-octane thriller, THE OUTSIDE MAN (Berkley Hardcover; March 2, 2021) which find Matt Drake fighting for his life against a highly trained team of assassins in broad daylight on the streets of (where else?) Austin, Texas. Who are they? Why do they want him dead? How will he protect those closest to him? The answers will take him into some of the most dangerous spots in the Middle East and will put him in the clutches of an old foe known simply as the Devil. It's a world of double crosses, with no boundaries between the guilty and the innocent. It will take all of Drake's wiles to get out alive.
Don spent a decade as an Army Apache helicopter pilot, and while deployed in Afghanistan was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Air Medal with “V” device for valor. In 2005, while he was the leader of the attack element during a mission to rescue four Navy SEALs in Afghanistan, one of the helicopters was shot down. Because of this personal experience, Don Bentley hopes that the details of the character, particularly his struggles with PTSD, will ring true for readers and his fellow veterans.
These real-life experiences allow him to write with authority and give his books a visceral, hair-raising realism—or as bestselling author Steve Berry described WITHOUT SANCTION—“You can smell the cordite, hear the explosions, and feel the fight in this one.” Don has become a go-to name in the genre already—he’s taken over the mantle for the latest Jack Ryan, Jr. novel, TARGET ACQUIRED, in June 2021.
