Book Synopsis for Darkness Enthroned: In the heart of a frigid northern winter, Rayden Valkyrie takes refuge in the lands of the Sarvan people when a mounted column of Attun warriors is seen passing along the outskirts of their territory heading west.

Far from their steppe domain in the east, the Attun warriors are journeying into a remote, unpopulated wilderness, drawing great alarm from the Sarvans about their purpose. Learning of the situation, Rayden joins with a band of warriors from the area’s villages to investigate.

Following the tracks of the Attun warriors, they are led to the base of an enormous, ancient burial mound, where the trail vanishes abruptly. A mystery looms, and Rayden seeks to discover the nature of the burial mound and the reason why the Attuns have traveled so far from their homelands to enter it.

Darkness Enthroned is a stand-alone adventure that is part of the Rayden Valkyrie Tales.

Book Synopsis for The AwakeningFollowing the end of a brutal war, Ragnar Stormbringer travels across the sea channel to the west with the warrior Thorsalla to visit her brother’s new settlement in the fertile lands of Ulstara.

Coming upon a scene of total devastation, they find no bodies, but there are a large number of strange tracks heading in one direction and signs of a few survivors in another.

Ragnar will soon discover that some mysteries are the gateways to even greater ones.

The Awakening is a stand-alone adventure that is part of the Ragnar Stormbringer Tales.

Saph's Review of The Awakening:

Ragnar, Thorsalla, and the rest of the crew land along the coast of Ulstara to take a much needed break and so Thorsalla can visit with her brother. His new settlement is just off the coast and when they approach, it is evident there was conflict. The encampment is completely destroyed and void of anyone living. There isn't even any smoke left from the burning of the settlement, meaning the attack happened some time ago. As Ragnar's crew inspects the destruction, two visible paths lead away from the settlement in different directions. Opting to reach out to members of other settlements, Ragnar and a portion of his crew, including Thorsalla, make their way further inland and learn some disturbing information about Ulstara, the destruction, Thorsalla's brother, the land's king, and the entity that haunts the lands day in and day out.

The Awakening captured my attention from the very beginning and kept me engaged. The author did a great job writing an interesting and action-packed novella. The story is well-paced; not too fast or too slow. The dialogue is smooth and understandable. The world building is descriptive and I was able to visualize everything as I read along. I enjoyed meeting the characters again and learning more about them. The book is exciting, filled with wonderful characters, and includes a complex plot without a lot of fluff or filler. I look forward to the next novella in the series.
